Whether you've had an injury, or are just tired and stressed, back pain can be really difficult to live with. There are many easy exercises for lower back pain you can do at home. These exercises will help relieve pain and strengthen your core, which will help prevent pain in the first place. It's important to consult with your Atlanta-area doctor before beginning any new exercise regimen, especially if you have had a back injury.

Simple stretches

There are several simple floor stretches and exercises for lower back pain that you can do in just a few minutes a day at home or even in the office. Simple repetitive stretching is a great way to relieve tension and, at the same time, strengthen your back and other muscles so that you can avoid pain in the future. One example of an easy lower back stretch is the knee-to-chest stretch, in which you lie on your back on the floor and pull your knees to your chest one at a time.

Ball exercises

A lot of easy exercises for lower back pain can be done with an exercise ball, which are fairly inexpensive. Using an exercise ball can help you strengthen your core muscles, which in turn stabilize your spine and reduce risk of injury and pain. In addition to exercising with a ball, a lot of people use them as ergonomic seats to help with straighter posture and spinal support. Exercise balls come in various sizes to fit a range of heights, so be sure to consult with your doctor or physical therapist to select a ball that is the right size for you.

Yoga for back pain

Another great way to strengthen your core muscles to help support your back is through yoga. Yoga can help align your body and build strength using a series of stretches and poses that will work all of your muscles. It's also a great way to just relax and relieve stress that may be causing chronic back pain in the first place. If you have severe back pain or a serious injury, you should consult with your doctor before trying yoga.

If at any time you experience new pains while exercising, you should stop right away and consult your doctor.
