Getting a facelift...ways to avoid disaster!

Getting a facelift...ways to avoid disaster!
By Kelly Sundstrom

Nobody wants to get older, right? Unfortunately, aging is a part of life that everybody has to go through. You might think about getting a facelift to help smooth out wrinkles and get rid of sagging skin around your jaw and neck. However, you might be cautious about going through with the procedure after seeing someone with botched plastic surgery who looks artificially stretched out.

So how can you get plastic surgery without looking like an alien? Avoid disaster by taking certain precautions when selecting a plastic surgeon in the Atlanta area and by choosing less invasive procedures.

The stretched out look often happens when doctors cut off too much skin during a facelift before the skin is sewn along the hairline. If you have ever seen someone who has had this happen, then you know how strange and disfigured it makes the person look.

One of my biggest fears about having plastic surgery is not recognizing myself afterward. I think many people have this fear, and with good reason.

Choosing a less invasive procedure gives you a fresh appearance without changing the look that is "you."

These procedures include the following:

  • The mini lift. Small, minimally invasive incisions made near the ears allow the plastic surgeon to lift muscle tissue and skin without cutting, which gives you a more natural-looking appearance. A mini lift is outpatient, meaning you can even schedule a lift on your lunch break--though your co-workers may wonder what happened to you when you get back from lunch!
  • Laser toning. Low-heat lasers applied to the skin encourage collagen production and increase muscle tone in the face, naturally lifting sagging skin without a scalpel. Laser toning is also outpatient and takes less than an hour to complete.

Whichever procedure you go with, it is always important to read patient reviews for any doctor you go to and find out if anyone has ever filed a complaint against him or her.
