Sciatica is leg pain that results from an injury to the lower back. If you are experiencing sharp pain, tingling or numbness down one of your legs, you may have a condition that is putting pressure on your sciatic nerve. The good news is that the problem is treatable while the bad news is that, sometimes, it can take a while to resolve.

Ouch!

Sciatic pain can be pretty painful. According to PubMed Health, you are dealing with those sharp, shooting stabs of pain from your thigh to your foot because your sciatic nerve is compressed. This can happen for a number of reasons; a common cause is a slipped disk. Laughing, walking and even sitting can make the pain worse. If this sounds like your life, consider seeking the help of an Atlanta chiropractor.

Ahhh!

A chiropractor may take X-Rays of your back to determine if your leg pain is, in fact, a result of a slipped disk or if the cause is something else altogether. Then, the chiropractor may recommend applying ice or heat regularly, taking a pain reliever and limiting your activities. Sitting for long periods of time can aggravate this problem so your chiropractor may recommend a standing desk at work. He or she may perform adjustments to your back to help reduce the pain and set up a schedule of adjustments to improve your condition.

Most of the time, sciatica does resolve itself with proper treatment, but if you experience any other alarming symptoms, like weight loss or sleeplessness, contact a health care provider.
