If you are older than 35 and trying to get pregnant, there are some things you should know. First, a healthy pregnancy is completely within your reach. Still, you may encounter some obstacles on the way to happily ever after. The most important thing you can do to help your chances of conceiving is visiting an Atlanta-area obstetrician. He or she can further educate you and your partner about how to safely carry a baby to term after the age of 35.

Obstacles: When you are in your 20s and early 30s, you produce more eggs, according to the Mayo Clinic. The reputable medical site cautions older women that it may take longer to get pregnant. But that doesn't mean you cannot conceive. It simply means your time table may be longer than a 22-year-old who wants to have a baby. Once you are successful in conceiving, the possible medical complications that can arise multiply in a woman older than 35. From gestational diabetes to the likelihood you will need to deliver your bundle of joy via C-section, an older woman has more to consider when it comes to achieving a healthy pregnancy.

Attitude: Sure, you may face a greater risk of having a baby with a genetic abnormality, but remember that most women in their 30s and 40s deliver healthy babies. Rather than freak out over every possible problem associated with getting pregnant after 35, talk to your OBGYN. Your doctor can discuss the risks of conceiving over 35 with you and your partner. He or she can also point you in the right direction if you are having trouble conceiving. It cannot be overstated how important it is to enter into expectant motherhood with a calm state of mind. Tension only makes it harder to conceive and when you are expecting.

Whether you are 25, 35 or 45 years of age, start your journey to motherhood by scheduling a visit to an Atlanta-area obstetrician. Pick someone you feel comfortable with and get excited! You may be pregnant very soon.
