Week by week pregnancy tips Atlanta

Pregnancy can be an overwhelming experience at times, but keeping in mind these simple week-by-week pregnancy tips can help make things a little less stressful. Knowing what to expect can help you better prepare for the multitude of OB/GYN visits over the coming months and get ready for the baby to arrive.

Weeks 1-13

When you find a smiley face on that little plastic stick that will change your life forever, it's time to find an OB/GYN in the Atlanta area if you don't have one already. Keep in mind that you will be seeing your doctor frequently over the next several months, and he or she will ultimately be there for the delivery of your baby. So, if you're not happy with your current doctor, you may want to consider finding a new one. At your first appointment, your doctor will confirm your pregnancy with a blood or urine test, as well as noting your general stats such as weight, height, blood pressure, etc. Arrive prepared to answer questions about your medical history, and be sure to make a list of any questions you may have. Your doctor will likely present you with samples, booklets and a week-by-week pregnancy guide listing your future tests and appointments.

Weeks 14-26

By the time you reach 20 weeks, you'll finally be ready for the mid-pregnancy ultrasound that will answer the big question: boy or girl? If you want to keep it a surprise, be sure and let your doctor or ultrasound technician know at the beginning of your appointment. Not all ultrasound machines are created equal, so be sure to check with your OB/GYN or the front office staff ahead of time to see if they offer a high-tech 3-D ultrasound. Some offices will offer one as a standard, while others may charge extra or not offer one at all.

Weeks 27-40

As your due date gets closer, it's time to start preparing for the big day. Your doctor's office should give you a pre-registration packet for your hospital. Be sure and check with the hospital and your insurance provider about whether there will be any fees that you'll need to cover during your stay. You should also ask about any classes the hospital or your doctor's office may offer on topics such as birthing and labor, breastfeeding and newborn care. Your OB/GYN may also be able to give you a referral to a pediatrician, whom you will need to select before the baby arrives.
