* Well, the week has finally arrived, and Oprah is signing off. If she’s been starring in your living room since, oh, you were a teen, then this may be a toughie. Perhaps by now you’ve embraced her direction to Live Your Best Life, and now that your focus won’t be on the TV, you can look around your home and find more ways to do this. Bob Greene helped you get in shape, right? Well, why not let your home help you get in shape, too? Enough with the “how hard it is to get to the gym.” Convert the basement, garage or an empty room into your workout area and suddenly, the kids’ nap time becomes your ab time. Or why not make the workout area right there by the kids’ play area (like in this photo, which I found here) so anytime can be workout time? And think of what a great role model you’ll be for your children. Here are Bob Green’s picks for the home gym equipment you need.
* Dr. Oz had your health in mind. Let’s talk health right there in your home and bust the toxins. Just this past weekend, I got a marker stain on my white countertop that I didn’t think would come out without some heavy chemical interaction, yet a simple scrub of baking soda did the trick. As my younger daughter (who is obsessed with making natural potions right now) told me, “All you really need is baking soda, vinegar, lemons, olive oil, and salt, and you can make just about any home remedy.” Don’t forget Borax–that natural ingredient is miraculous. Here are some recipes, from Eco-cycle. And here is one from Dr. Oz himself (I like the addition of the peppermint extract). I found the photo on Dog’s Life magazine’s website, and yes, let’s remember that our pets get affected by household toxins, too.
* Suze Orman kept you on your toes about your money. Keep her words to the wise in mind as you plan for home repairs and improvements. Here are her five tips for keeping home remodeling costs down, plus her list of the cheapest way to go green. Hey, I’m all for saving green when going green whenever I can.
*As for Oprah? Well, she has her own home issues to deal with–mostly, which one to visit when. See them all here. Such problems, huh? Pictured is her main home, on 42 acres in California. Now, now, if there’s one green we don’t want to be, it’s green with envy. Besides, if you really want this kind of material success, there is an opening for a talk show host . . .
