* Well, Arthur Schopenhauer (who?) may have been on to something when he said, “Great men are like eagles, and build their nest on some lofty solitude,” but what he didn’t realize was that moms like lofty time alone too! That’s why lofty spaces like tree houses make us (or, at least, me) pine away for one of our own. There’s actually a German company named Baumraum that specializes in tree house design and construction all over the world. There are a surprising number of books about tree house design, which you can find here. Then, curl up in (or under) a tree somewhere to imagine the possibilities.
* Other lofty favorites include that second-story loft space turned into a bedroom or office, or the loft in the garage that serves as extra storage space. I especially love this spiral staircase leading upstairs to the private loft in this home.
