HVAC assessment/tune-up is a joke
The "assessment" was a joke. I was with him 100% of the time during which he checked the voltage on the HVAC transformer and the capacitance of the capacitors. That's it. He then went outside and checked the refrigerant charge, which was low. He did not measure the weight of the freon canister before or after charging! He literally said it FELT like he put in a pound and charged me $55. He also had difficulty interpreting the chart of Lennox sub-cool guidelines. Given these guys sell Lennox systems I found this to be particularly alarming. Iím very concerned he overcharged my system if he really added a full pound.
A proper assessment of the system involves more than just hooking the gauge up to the condenser and reading the temperature offset. They should be cleaning the indoor blower, the evaporator and condenser coils, checking the internal duct static pressure and the amp draw on the blower motor, checking the temperature difference across the evaporator coil, etc. The technician didn't do ANY of that. You cannot accurately measure sub cooling if the system is not clean. These folks are just out to soak you for a quick $135 and not give you the service you paid for. Simple as that. And at $135/lb of freon they are the most expensive in town. Upon calling to voice my concerns, Melissa refused to let me speak with a Service Manager, which tells me this is par for the course with this company! Iíll be letting Costco know they are vouching for very poor service.
