Atlanta Air Care posted on 9/25/2013
Predator on the Loose
My wife called Atlanta Air Care for broken AC. Tech arrived 2 hours late and found some cheap parts were shot. Tech quoted >$100 + per capacitor and told her AAC normally charges over $250 for part. The parts ($6 -$15 retail) were presented like they were very expensive and that she was getting a killer deal. For $60 (retail) in parts, 2 pounds of R22, and one hour of time we were charged over $900 (which equals $720/hr). I called AAC and they said they operate on per unit price and prices are agreed before service. I calmly replied that Atlanta Air Care misled my wife regarding the value of parts and that unit prices are reflective of “individual” service call prices (basically like traveling to and from the shop for each item, + materials and repair times). I asked if they would give break for performing multiple repairs in the same trip because they do not have the travel time; I got the same answer “we charge unit prices”. Hesitantly the rep. said the owner would call me back (it’s been over a week and no return call). I am very disappointed in Atlanta Air Care’s predatory tactics and lack of customer service. It is these exact situations that give contractors a bad name and decrease the value of contractor services. There are plenty of good HVAC contractors out there that offer transparent billing; it’s just not these guys based on our experience.
