middiagnosed and dangerous
I have taken my car (a 96 Honda) to Alan Cox for years and never had a problem. However recently I was hearing a noise from the front end and took it in to have it checked out, noting on the service order to please check the wheel bearings. (A friend had suggested this might be the problem) I was going on a long trip and wanted to be sure the car was safe. Nick took down the notes and sent it to the service tech who spent about 45 mintues going over it. The result was that I was told my timing had likely skipped and they could re-adjust it when I returned for about $250. The brakes were fine, wheel bearings fine, etc. So I went down to florida only to have the noise worsen considerably. Before heading back I took it in to a honda dealer. They diagnosed a bad wheel bearing --in ten m inutes and said it needed to be fixed immediately. Nothing wrong with the timing at all. The problem was obvious and definitely dangerous. I was fixed and on my way in 1.5 hours for under $200 and maybe saved myself from a terrible accident.
