Not the people for older houses
I hired April Painting to paint three rooms in my house. The big issue that I needed resolved was peeling paint on the existing trim. I live in a house built in the 40's that still had its original trim and I wanted to save it. John and I discussed the issue twice before I hired them. He was very professional and went into great detail about the type of stripper they would use and how long it would take, etc. I then discussed the issue again with Freddy, the head of the crew sent to do the actual work.
Without asking me and while I was out, they ripped the peeling trim out of the house and put new (non-matching) trim up in its place. The old trim was gone and there was no way to get it back. To top it off they did a terrible job with the installation. Instead of using whole pieces for each side, they used fragments leaving ugly seams. I'm sure this makes measuring easier, but it looks terrible and does not match the level of quality for the existing trim. They fought my requests to replace the inferior work but did eventually do it in the easily seen areas (not in all the places).
If you have an older house and are concerned about retaining its original features, I would not hire these people. I could not have been more clear that I wanted to keep the existing trim. The only way to have prevented the problem would have been to actually watch over them the entire time they were there. There is no way I would trust these people to come into my home again.
