Progressive Plumbing

Daniel made it right

Scheduled an appt with Daniel to resolve a clogged toilet. On telephone I clearly stated I wanted to know all costs I would be billed before those costs were incurred....essentially, don't do any work without my authorization as this was at a rental house where I was not going to be when the plumber came. There must have been a miscommunication because Ken (the plumber who did the work) told me the cost was $225 for the work completed, and I was never consulted by the plumber prior to that. I contacted Daniel pretty annoyed since the work that was done was plunging the toilet as well as viewing the drain lines in the crawl space (admittedly, not easily accessible). Had I been provided these costs ahead of time as agreed, I would have declined (since I can plunge a toilet myself and I felt the diagnosis charge was too high). Daniel met with his plumber who did the house call to ensure he had both sides of the story and asked me what I felt was fair. We agreed on a fair price and I was happy in the end. I think Daniel is a businessman who is both honest and fair as evident by his willingness to come to a mutually agreeable solution. So in that vain, I'd recommend him, with the caveat to be sure you know the cost prior to incurring that cost.....including the base service charge.

Top notch decorative finishes

After seeing some of this artist's work at a friend's house, I decided to have some decorative/faux finishes done in my home. I was blown away with the results. Brian did an amazing venetian plaster on the walls in one room. I was worried about having the walls look "dirty" but Brian understood I was looking for a high-end look and delivered on this. It really gave the room an elegance. He helped me pick a color which complemented the room's furnishings. Everyone who sees the room is wowed by the job he did. Impressed with the living room, I decided to have him take a stab at another room. I wanted to add some flair to our boring basement rec room but I wasn't sure what would work well. He talked me through a few options and showed me some of the work he's done in previous jobs to give me some ideas. We decided on a harlequin design on one wall to make it a feature wall in the room. The harlequin, a group of diamond shapes painted different colors, really gave the wall that pop it needed. The colors he helped me choose again, worked well with the colors in the room. All the diamonds were identical in size, totally symmetric, and laid out so that none were cut off unevenly. I'm sure that didn't just happen.....it must have taken some planning. Brian delivered and exceeded my expectations ten fold. His artistic talent, professional attitude and ability to help me hone in on what finish is best suited to my needs and decor all leave me a satisfied customer.

Diversified Stucco Services

Excellent work at a fair price

I called Diversified Stucco Services (DSS) since they were well recommended on Angies List. They came out and did an assessment and estimate of recommended work on a house I was considering purchasing. Eric H came out and did a visual review and non-invaisve moisture test of the hardcoat stucco, window trim, etc. The recommendation was to do some cutback on the stucco that was below grade sue to high moisture test results and vertical stucco cracking near the foundation. Also, some window/door trim replacement and full cauking. The estimate was not small (~5K) but it is a big house. He was professional. He was able to provide a full written estimate of the suggested work that evening. After closing on the house, I contacted him and was able to negotiate a $1K reduction in price. The work they did was very good. They kept the "mess" to a minimum, were polite and professional. They showed me some potential problem areas as they did the work and kept me in the loop thoughtout the job (since I wasn't living on-site). While I might have been able to find cheaper, I think I got a good value. The only problem I experienced was that their original estimate of replacing two rotted window trims jumped to 13. This caused a significant price increase. While they showed me the work needed (so I don't think they were adding on unnecessary work), they should have done a better job setting cost expectations. Gray Contracting, Inc.

Simply the worst

Had them do my roof. They came up with a contract that said they would replace felt. After they were half done, I saw they just roofed over old felt. When I pointed this out, they said it was the new felt (clearly a lie). I also found that they did not redeck areas of the roof that they said they would. Finally, it was clear the crew was unskilled day laborers (the kind that hang out by Home Depot) as the quality of what they did do was poor. The new roof leaked at the very next rainstorm.
