Chelsea's Kitchen

Posted on: 5/27/2008

Somewhat Overpriced and Overrated

Chelsea's is another restaurant in the DiMarco Dynasty....La Grande Orange, Postino, Radio Milano, et al. The location is great....the patio is freakin' awesome (huge fireplace) and very relaxing environment. The menu is kind of "homey" (fried chicken with a cinnamon roll) and, in general, is quite tasty, but it's a bit overpriced. It's also a bit pretentious, but in general the concept works.

Keegan's Grill & Taproom

Ok, but nothing special.

This is a local bar/restaurant at the end of a strip mall at 32nd St and Camelback. The ambience is rather dark and unassuming. The beer selection is pretty impressive, but the food is somewhat average - kind of bar foodish. Not bad, just not spectacular.

Mama Java's Coffeehouse

Awesome little coffeehouse....

I love this place. It's one of the last real coffeehouses in central Phoenix. Free wi-fi, great food and they pour their americanos/lattes with a standard quad shot of espresso. Great choice. Live music on the weekends too!

Giuseppe's Italian Kitchen

Excellent Neighborhood Italian

This strip-mall Italian place has a loyal following and for good reason! Excellent food with a traditional Italian ambience. The gorgonzola, walnut and sage penne is great, as are the lasagna and the bruschetta. Great place!

Zen 32

Awesome Sushi - Awesome Staff

This is my local hangout for sushi and I go there at least once a week. Zen32 has some of the best sushi in town. The staff is amazing and helpful and, until recently, they had a lot of longterm staff. Zen32 has all the usual suspects in terms of sushi rolls, etc. and great menu options, too. My favorite is the spicy scallop rolls with lemon and jalapeno. Yum! The only downside is that the owner Lenny has a bit of a reputation for being difficult to work for. They had a mass exodus of the staff recently, which is disappointing because many of the longtimers are now gone. Anyway...great place overall!

Great little hangout

This place started off as a little neighborhood gourmet grocery and has evolved into a much bigger deal. It has a pizzeria and a full menu of sandwiches, salads, etc. and still the wonderful selection of gourmet food items. My only knock on this place is that the pricing is a bit steep and also the parking situation is atrocious. Way too much the "in" place right now and it's sometimes difficult to get into. Check it out!

Zoe's Kitchen

Healthy and Delicious

I love Zoe's Kitchen. It's a very clean, fresh atmosphere with lots of good menu options. My personal favorites are the chicken roll-ups, chicken salad & fruit plate, the Gruben (turkey ruben sandwich) and, of course, the fresh limeade. Awesome!
