Nobu

Pay pay pay for location location location.
Nobu, a high-end sushi place located inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Downtown San Diego. I went to Nobu with my Girlfriend on saturday night, crowded, loud, and generally a fun environment to go in a crowd.
The Hard Rock hotel is fairly new (built int he last couple of years I believe), and market itself as quite upscale. It was crawling with women in short dresses, and men in casual suits, heading for the nightclubs inside. I didn't see a single 'hard rocker' there, and I wonder if they would even get through the front-door which was guarded by velvet ropes and a bouncer.
Nobu reflects that, and was also crowded by a younger flock. The service was reasonably good, attentive and slightly pushy.
Nobu prouds itself of a wide range of sushi creations. However, the price reflects it. Simple rolls starts at $8-$13, and taste good, but are very very ordinary. The best 'simple' roll is the house-roll at $13. The fancy creations, costs from $13-$25 or so, and are quite good. But not at those prices. The problem is that I can get similar creations at other sushi places, for a much much lower price. It's just not worth it.
I especially remember some taco-rolls, 4 tiny tacos at $20, which was very bland, and bite sized. Good idea to have a local flair to the creation, but add some taste! The taste of the taco itself overpowered any fish inside.
When you go to Nobu, you pay pay pay for location location location. Two people, still hungry afterwards, with 1 drink: $110.

A Plus Autocare

nice people, good repair.
A+ Autocare has unfortunately had plenty of work to do on my car lately. They have done good work (I don't know much about cars), and fairly timely. They have a shuttle service for local residents at least (yeah), and once a repair they made failed after a week, they had my car towed back to 'repair the repair' under warranty for free.
I will keep using them (although less, since I got a new car, yeah!!)

Mexicocina Restaurant & Cantina

Decent mexican food, big servings
Lots of salsa served in little stone trays, and endless chips. Mexicocina does pretty well for a YAMR (Yet Another Mexican Restaurant), and you won't regret a lunch here. Sit outside or in, or sneak next door to the attached bar area after your meal.
Food is Average, prices are OK, and quality what you might expect.

Dad's Cafe And Steakhouse

An hour of my life I could have spent elsewhere
When I went to Dad's I had a burger that was about as interesting as sticking my tongue out a window. The karaoke system was on, and to the tune of "Little Red Corvette", it was served with ketchup and the accessories one would expect.
I have not returned since.

Corvette Diner

A fun place to eat...
I don't go to Corvette Diner for the food, as much as for the experience. The waiters have an attitude, and the whole restaurant is a return to the happy fifties. It's not uncommon to have straws flung at you, or that the waiters will sing a tune.
While most of the food is what you would expect from a diner, they have a huge shake-selection which is well worth the trip.

Excellent Restaurent, Very tasty
150 Grand Cafe is a 'fancy' restaurant with white table cloths, good ambiance, and beautifully presented food that tastes great too.
I've been there twice, on my first date, and on our anniversary one year later (It's a bit of a drive for us). Each time the presentation of the food has been great. Even better, the taste is fantastic, and everything we tried was very high quality.
Awesome place for that someone special (A little pricey though, but average for this kind of quality).

Panang Curry 5 Heaven
I love spices, and eat only one thing here... Panang Curry Spicy 5. After a lunch menu, reasonably priced at around $12 after tax, my mouth is in heaven. That sauce is fantastic, and the service always friendly and nice. Highly recommended !

not exciting pizza
I went here once after receiving a free birthday coupon in the mail. What a sad sad birthday that was, with a piece of a nondescript pizza tasting of, well, not much. The tomato sauce was OK, but the cheese was there to fill it up and give it volume, but no taste. What I wouldn't give for some fresh parmigiana on that.
I haven't been back since.

Hash House a Go Go

If you don't mind waiting, go here
With a small party, you may wait 20-30 minutes. Larger parties, aye caramba !
BUT: The wait is sooo worth it, because the Hash'es creations are amazing. The biggest breakfast servings in town, this is the place for anyone with true hunger. Some creations are mediocre, but there are some true gems in here that you will have to discover for yourself.
Amazing place, but it would be great if they had not overextended themselves and put people all the way down in the back alley just to add more tables...

Inconsequential Breakfast
I asked the waiter why it was called Le Peep, and what it meant. He had no idea, but knew at least it was french. I think the same mentality applies to the menu selection. It is clearly breakfast, but it doesn't make sense to serve it. It's average, not very tasty, and generally boring.A middle-of-the-road experience all out.
