Rip Off. I just left Atlanta Dental Center and have never felt so taken advantage of. I went for a new patient appointment today for xrays, exam, cleaning, etc. I was given the price, $242, over the phone prior to the appointment and was comfortable with the cost. Dr. Amaya examined me and I received my xrays. Then, the hygienist came in to "evaluate my gums." This is the point where I began to wonder if if I was being ripped off. After the hygienist used a device to detect periodontal disease on my gums, I was told that I needed a "Full Mouth Debridement." I am a healthy 29-year old who has had one cavity and think my oral health is excellent. Because this extra service costs $200, I asked if I could just get my regular cleaning that I was expecting to receive. I was told that no cleaning is included in the initial $242 patient visit and that "it would be malpractice" for me to receive a regular cleaning without the debridement. So, I just spent 2 hours and over $200 to receive xrays, an exam, and a $1300 treatment plan for cleanings and 4 fillings. I will be finding another dentist that actually cleans its patients teeth. This practice is in the BUSINESS of making money.
