Be Prepared for Unforeseen Costs
We recently attempted to switch vets and chose Collier Animal Hospital, given its proximity to our home. Unfortunately, though, after my most recent experience there, we won't be returning. While the vet seems quite knowledgeable, I just feel the need to warn people that you may walk out paying a lot more than you had planned -- case in point, I had made an appointment for a $14.85 six month bordatella booster, and walked out with an $82.84 bill. Immediately after administering the bordatella nasal spray, the vet went ahead and injected my dog before I even got a chance to ask exactly what she was doing. It ended up being a $17.99 leptospirosis vaccine. While I most likely would have OK'd the vaccine after hearing an explanation, I just can't get over the vetís presumptiveness in injecting my dog, with a substance unknown to me at the time, prior to obtaining my permission (let alone my request). As icing on the cake, I was charged a $50 dollar biannual wellness exam fee. As with the leptospirosis vaccine, I never requested an exam and was never told it was something this vet office requires for a bordatella booster. We will certainly be switching vets.
