Decatur Yoga and Pilates

Like a Spa where you Work-Out

I recently did the one-time unlimited week-long pass at DYP and fell head over heels in love with yoga, bikram in particular. I'm one of those people who generally feels intimidated in a new work-out environment, but not here! When you arrive, it's like walking into a spa. It is hidden from street view and mostly underground, which just adds to the peacefulness of it (no street noise to tune out). My favorite aspect of the instructors is how they all encourage you to listen to your own body and go at your own pace, something that is very important for beginners like me. The heat is intense but I promise you will quickly get used to it. Something I do is freeze a bottle of water overnight and I bring a small towel for my face in addition to my mat and large towel. And I cannot even describe how amazing the cool lavender towels are at the end of the practice. The instructors vary a bit, so here's a tip: if you want a more silent-type, go with Heath (he's also great with gracefully adjusting the lighting); if you want a more vocal-type, go with Lisa (she is very approachable too); if you want a total spiritual hippie (in a great way), go with Ana Lisa. Try bikram, you will walk away with a completely renewed outlook on life. This place is absolutely amazing. I am hooked after 1 week!

Wahoo! A Decatur Grill

DE-lish!

My father and I meet for dinner every week and this is our favorite place. It would also make for a great date spot. The atmosphere is beautiful, and I always feel relaxed and want to order a glass of wine right when I get there. (I've never been on Saturday but it's great during the week!) Kid-friendly: I sometimes bring my 9 month old son and we sit in the outdoor part. Food: The food is exquisite; I've never disliked anything I've gotten there- the calamari and potato cakes are both scrumptious! My salmon is always cooked just as I ask and the rainbow trout is great too. My husband likes the shrimp and grits and my father the parmesan-encrusted chicken. Service: I only put 4 stars because the service is hit or kinda-hit. There is this one server there, I think her name is Elizabeth and she is great- not in your face or overly bouncy but is good about checking on drinks and dirty dishes. The other servers we've had haven't been above average. However, we always leave at least a 15% tip so it's never been undersirable! If you live in Decatur or nearby, definitely give this place a shot. I guarantee a pleasant dining experience.

Oz Pizza

Missing Decatur Location!

I worked at the Decatur store several years ago and I constantly crave it. This is the best pizza I have ever had and I used to eat it all the time. I can also tell you that the owners are extremely friendly, interesting people who care about their customers and want to be sure they are eating top quality pizza with high quality ingredients. If you are ever hungry and in East Point (or Fairburn), you MUST stop by and grab a slice or two. I always got rave reviews about the veggie pies/slices and the salads are big, crisp, and flavorful! I'm a big fan of the pepperoni and pineapple myself. Ahhhh- now I want to go there right now; my mouth is watering as I type this!

Brick Store Pub

Calling All Beer Snobs!

My husband and I are complete beer snobs and when we go out for drinks, we always end up at the Brick Store. When he was in Germany he loved this beer called Aventinus and wasn't able to find it until he asked about it at the Brick Store. I only put 4 stars because sometimes the servers are slow/moody and the beer is much more expensive than it would be in a package store (like with all bars, though). If you have a refined palate in terms of beer, definitely check out the Brick Store- you won't be disappointed, although you might be overwhelmed by their HUGE selection! Oh- and the food is really good too, I hear good things about the chicken melt and I always get the volcano or the burger. Yummmmmm!

Tate, Joseph MD

Perfect OBGYN

I came to Dr. Tate late in my pregnancy after relocating to Atlanta. He generously took me on even though he has tons of patients. The prenatal visits went well, although my first one was at 4:00 PM and he was backed up and I didn't leave until 8PM. I have to admit that I was a bit turned off at first by the old fashioned, no frills look of his office... but I got over it and I'm glad I stopped being a snob. (yes, you other women are snobs.) After that, I scheduled my appointments in the morning and was out within an hour. However, he still would have been worth it had I waited 4 hours for every visit! I also appreciated that he didn't do a pelvic exam until I was 40 weeks, which other doctors often do every week starting at week 36. When it came time for me to have my baby, he was at the hospital waiting when we got there. He offered a paracervical block which I had never heard of but it so much better than an epidural because you are completely mobile. I pushed and pushed without anything for a while and he realized my baby was turned sideways. Any other doctor would have done a c-section but he knew how to do forceps delivery. I got an epidural and he delivered my baby with forceps and I was glad. I was determined to not have a c-section and he made this possible for me. If you want a doctor who doesn't do any unneccesary interventions, then go to Dr. Tate. You will NOT regret i
