Beware of False Sense of Security
For those of you who think having your basement waterproofed by Trotter Company means you can sleep at night knowing that either your basement will be dry in the morning or that the company will take care of you if it’s not, you may want to think again. Six or seven years ago, I hired Trotter Company to waterproof my basement and after getting over the shock of how much the system cost, I was assured this was an investment in my piece of mind. And, until the recent torrential rains, my basement has been dry (obviously due in part to our lengthy drought). However, as I learned this morning, my piece of mind was nothing more than an illusion because not only did my 1,200 square foot, finished basement take on 3-4 inches of water this past Monday (9/21), but I was informed that even if Trotter’s state-of-the-art waterproofing system had been overwhelmed by the amount of water we had, there were surely other areas/reasons that also contributed to the water coming into my basement. So...they assumed NO responsibility for the damage caused, and oh, by the way, to make me "feel better", the rep said, most of the calls he’s made are hearing the exact same thing! Long story short, when you are told not to worry once you spend thousands of dollars with Trotter Company to have your basement/home waterproofed…you may want to buy flood insurance anyway.
