If only every doctor was half this great!
We’ve seen Dr. Rodbell for years now and could not think more highly of him, and our sons adore him and his staff. He is primarily a solo practitioner, though he does have backup physicians. He is so caring and kind, but also extremely well informed and professional (though he has a delightfully goofy sense of humor.) He's very supportive of breastfeeding, and since he has kids of his own at home he's able to really empathize with parental concerns and can offer realistic suggestions; we've made consultation appointments with him, without our sons, to discuss things like sleep issues and asthma management. He's a great diagnostician, too-- he diagnosed and successfully treated failure to thrive in a friend of mine's son that her pediatricians at a big local group had missed. He really explains what he's doing and looking for to you, and when my kids are sick, he has often been able to see us on the same day I call. When a little one is very sick he’ll even call after hours to check on them. He trains many medical and nursing students, so you often get a “second opinion” from them and then he discusses their findings with you, too—it’s so helpful to get so much insight into your child’s care. There are lots of excellent pediatricians in Atlanta, and the single provider model isn't for everyone, but we love that he knows our kids, knows our family, and knows his stuff, too.
Saved us $6k & found rodent problem others missed
A&K saved us so much money and found a major safety concern. Our hvac system kept losing its connection to our thermostat and not working. Our regular hvac service came out 3 times; it kept happening so they quoted us $6k for the new system they said we needed. I asked A&K for a second quote just to be cautious. They came out the very next day, calling first and arriving promptly. Their technician crawled all around and realized that the problem isn't our system but rats in our crawl space chewing the wires! Ack! He replaced the wires and the system works great. We are using some of the money we saved on an exterminator. It's not just a money saving issue though, it's a health issue. We have kids and I'm so incredibly glad A&K was so thorough that they noticed the rodents that the other company had missed three times! When we eventually do need to replace our whole system we will be calling A&K.
Good, fast service
We've unfortunately lost several (3, ugh) windshields/windows to break-ins over the years and needed one stuck down window fixed and replaced, and Glass, Inc. has done a fast, nice, reasonably priced job each time.
Saved our nursing relationship!
2013 UPDATE: When we had our second child this winter, LCA was just as responsive and helpful as they were the first time. Since they'd done such a thorough job educating me the first time I just needed a few tweaks but Sharon was full of great ideas and support. Just an awesome company!
ORIGINAL 2010 REVIEW: Five stars are just not enough. Without Sharon from LCA, I would not have been able to nurse my son. With her help, we finally got it right.
My son and I had a rough start to nursing; we were both hysterical when Sharon arrived at our home. Literally within two hours she had him latched and nursing contentedly, when he'd been screaming and on the edge of dehydration for the previous five days. She even made me call her back a couple of days later to let her know how we were doing. It's been smooth sailing ever since!
If not for this group, I know in my heart that I would not have been able to nurse-- I was so scared and sad and ready to give up, and Sharon just fixed us right up. My baby is now four months old and is a champion nurser! Her services were not convered by my insurance, but it was worth every penny. I can't recommend LCA highly enough if you're having trouble with breastfeeding and want compassionate, patient help ASAP.
I also rent a pump for work through LCA, and they have been very helpful; it's important to note that if you order parts for your pump though them, it's cheaper than if you do it online!
A doctor you can trust
As a first-time mom, I chose Dr. Tate because a friend of mine had a wonderful natural birth with him. I am so, so glad that I made that decision. I truly believe that any other OB in Atlanta would have insisted I have a c-section. I went to 42 weeks before I had to be induced because of rising blood pressure; Dr. Tate was patient and let my body slowly adapt to the induction medication, despite the fact that I started labor on the sabbath and took nearly 21 hours to deliver. I birthed a 9 lb 14 oz son vaginally with no complications, and 2.5 weeks later, am feeling just fine myself. Sure, I sometimes spent a few hours in his office waiting for an appointment, but I loved spending that time chatting with other mothers and the funny, friendly staff. Most importantly, I trust Dr. Tate completely with my care and he honored that trust, providing stellar care to both me and my son. I didn't end up with my "ideal" all-natural birth, but I know that he helped me to make the best decisions for my baby and myself, and I have no regrets about my beautiful birth-- which, to me, is pretty much the best possible outcome.
