Veterinary Specialty Hospital posted on 7/11/2010
Buyer beware - Shockingly expensive and pushy
CAUTION! FOR PROFIT VENTURE. Primary focus is on making money. Our cat was "clogged up" and had to have his urinary output cleaned out, and got a catheter for a couple of days. This was non-invasive surgery. No cuts, no stitches, just use a catheter for a day or two until his wee wee was less sore. Our vet said "monitoring only" for a night or two. When we dropped the cat off, we were told the MINIMUM charge was $1200, and we'd need to pay it all right then. We decided to pick him up after 24 hours to keep the charges down. It was $880! To monitor him for 24 hours! It is difficult to have "cost management" conversations, since this vet hospital operates like a car sales office. You talk to the vet for care, you talk to someone else for costs, these two individuals won't talk to you at the same time - either on the phone or in person. Our vet sent down a full bag of IV fluids with the cat for the hospital to use. The hospital took the fluids but later told us they won't use any fluids they don't sell you, so I guess our IV fluides went down the drain. I agree with an earlier post. Managing pet care health expenses doesn't mean you don't love your pet. This place will play on your love of your pet to guilt you into services and extended stays. We plan to provide a written desciption of our experience to our vet, along with a copy of the "quote". This hospital works on referrals, please tell your vet about your experience here.
