A gem right here in Alpine!
We are very fortunate to have the Alpine View Lodge and their wonderful staff so close to home! Initially, we placed mom in a different Assisted Living, and when that did not work out we were desperate.
The folks here assesed her needs and welcomed her with open arms. The administrators got to know her and work with her needs as an individual-regardless of her memory impairment.
Mom has now been at AVL for 3+ years and is leading a dignified, safe life.

Harvest Buffet

This buffet is HORRIBLE
The food was below average, with the salad having brown leaves in it. A few random entrees like prime rib and chicken enchiladas(?) wierd. Desserts were grocery store brand pies and such. NOT worth the $ or the insane line.

Back to their former glory!
I'm not sure what happened, but for the past 2 years the quality of the food here had really been slipping. Not so anymore! We've had take-out from Ramon's twice in the past 2 months and both times the food has been hot and tasty. They have a BUNCH of new side orders too, which is great.

Used to be GREAT, now just ok.
Not sure what happened to sunrise... too popular too soon? We went here for a couple of years and everything was fantastic, then over the last year or so, it's headed south of average. Too bad, it's a great location and had great food.

Great service and quick response time
This is a one-man operation, so don't be afraid to leave a message if you get his machine when you call. He returns calls promptly and was able to work us in within 1 week when we called. Great job--Clean, Fast, Reasonably priced.

I wanted to like it...
Finally tried this place with my mom last week. Living in Alpine puts this resaurant on the list of places close enough for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The decor is very homey. The place was tastefully decorated for Christmas and very comfortable. We arrived at 1pm and they served breakfast until 2pm, so mom had breakfast and I ordered from the lunch menu. My soup and 1/2 sandwich was tast enough, (the cheeseburger chowder is good), reasonably priced and perfectly sized. Mom's breakfast was also good sized. Service was prompt and friendly.
So what was so bad? Well, there was a definate FLY problem! Not just one, but several flies buzzed around us during lunch, which really ruined the whole experience (if you've ever watched Kitchen Nightmares, I don't have to explain what the kitchens look like when the restaurant has flies buzzing around! ICK!)
So what would have been 4 stars or better is 2 because of the flies. Hopefully they were just all coming in out of the cold and not breeding in the kitchen.

If you can get him to return your call...
Manny was our first "tree guy" and he really did the best job for the best price. The problem is that he does not answer his phone and call backs can take a month (I'm not exaggerating. I'm currently on day 28 waiting. I finally gave up and got someone else). The first time we used him he took a month and about 12 calls to get back to us too. But having delt with a bunch of other yo-hos, I will say that if you can wait he is the best. Maybe call him in the summer when he's not as busy? Both times we called was in the fall and I know that tree guys are busier in the fall. He does do a great job and cleans everything up better than it was when he started.

I did not use him, but probably should have...
Charles went out of his way to accommodate me for the estimate, but he came in quite a bit higher than the competition so we went with someone else. Too bad because the other guy then tried to jack up the price on us. Charles was plesant and professional during the estimate and probably would have done a great job.

Better than I thought it would be
From the reviews of the previous location, I went in expecting a bar with burger service. Well, they do have a bar, which we skipped in favor of the dining room. We were there on a quiet night which was fine, but it looked like the place has the potential to be noisy since there is no fabric on any of the seating nor on the floor.
The service was great, server knew what she was talking about and made good recommendations. Food was good--hot and tasty and the onion rings were exceptional! My companion had a burger, which she enjoyed, and I had the Fuego steak sandwich which was very spicy and tasty.
Definately a casual place and seems like they are geared to younger folks and kids.
