Emperial Hardwood Floors, Inc.

Posted on: 3/7/2012

Floors Look Like New! Excellent People.

We had our hardwood floors installed 19 years ago. This is the first time we've had them refinished. Several companies gave us bids. We chose Emperial because their prices were competitive, great reviews on Kudzu and they only do hardwood floors. Most companies install carpet, tile, linoleum and refinish hardwoods. We chose a company that specialized in hardwood floors only. The den was the only room on the main level that did not have hardwood floors. We had them remove the den carpet and install hardwoods. They removed the old subfloor and installed plywood. They screwed down the plywood with lots of screws which eliminated the squeaks we had from the old den floor. The new flooring adjoins the living room, foyer, kitchen and sunroom. After all of the floors were sanded and refinished, you cannot tell the old floor from the new floor. Everything looks as though it was installed at the same time. Two teams on the job. George, Billy, Kyle and Dalton installed the new floor and sanded the existing floor. They used their regular sander and bag. Little dust was created. I was surprised at how much manual scraping and sanding is required. Their attention to detail was very impressive. George and his crew stained the floor. Beau and Nathan applied three coats of poly. They also did a great job. We were pleased with the people and the final product was excellent.

Check Their Quote !!

A friend suggested that I ask each roofer the number of "squares" (each square = 100 sq ft) they used in their estimate. A big part of the price of a roof, including labor and materials, is based on the number of squares they estimate. I had five roofers give me estimates. All companies quoted on the same GAF shingles. The average number of squares was 38, except for Deluxe - their quote was based on 60 squares. I asked them to re-measure and they came up with 58 squares - a 40% difference!! And guess what? Their price was 42% higher than other companies. Initially I really liked the company. But the numbers of squares they used in their quote made me questions the way they do business.
