Polite & Pleasant

We called Southern Scapes to give us a free estimate for removal of a large tree. We found them through a coupon pack we received in the mail. It's a family owned business, and they were very courteous. Jeremy came for the estimate. He did run late, and ended up coming when it was almost dark, but it was easy to see the tree that needed removal. He gave a detailed description of the process & left a no-pressure estimate for me to look at. We called back to schedule, and when he got in touch with me (on a Saturday) he was able to work around my schedule for the following Monday. All of it was no-pressure. In fact, I told him I may not be there that morning, and he assured me it would be fine. They are not the kind of company that needs a check as soon as they leave the house (like some contractors we have experience with). They left the invoice in the mailbox, and we promptly sent in payment-including the discount from the coupon. They also have a partnership with a tree farm for when we want to replace the tree in the future. They can install it as well. We would use their services again.

The Room Planners

A Learning Process

The rooms we got updated were much improved! But I did have a problem with one of the colors that was picked for the walls. Now I know what to expect the next time I work with this (or any) designer. It was my first time using a decorator, and I didn't even think to see the color swatch on my wall- because what came out on the computer was so VERY different. I also now know that I should request an itemized receipt for purchases made, especially since some of the accessories are not what we use. I had to take them back on store credit and found that everything I returned was deeply discounted. Unfortunately, it was hard to find what I really need, so I will be even more out of pocket from somewhere else to get everything we need. The contractors were really great to work with. And everyone involved was courteous. The project was completed even earlier than expected, which of course was GREAT!

disappointed

If it weren't for the second Mark to come to our house, our review would be less favorable. The sales process was good. John was very informative & knowledgeable. The installation process was a large disappointment. However, management was good about addressing/understanding our concerns: a job that was slated for 2 days actually took 7 business days. a small section of our brand new siding had to be re-installed because of the many holes that were put into it. the original 2 men left for half a day without any indication. the workers did not have all of the necessary equipment to perform the job. the second guy that came out to finish the installation & the siding was very pleasant & hard-working. he never seemed to stop. dealing with the office was a mostly pleasant experience. we are so far happy with our new windows, but it really was quite an ordeal.

Roberts Roofing, Inc.

They should just stick to roofing.

I contacted Roberts Roofing because of the rave reviews here. I saw they also did siding. We hoped that we would have as pleasurable an experience. To be fair, we cannot speak to their quality. We are not hiring them! Their professionalism is severely lacking. We contacted them for a siding estimate. A different guy than the one I'd been dealing with came to the house (just a little late). He didn't bring with him any materials or catalogs. He just measured. Said he'd email a written estimate the next day (a Friday). I had to call on Monday, where the guy "just got inside for lunch. {he'd} call back in 5 mins when he was back at the truck"... and called the next day. There were several excuses used for lack of materials and estimate (coming from a meeting, computer issues, sick kid, and then sick himself). To top it off, he contradicted at least 2 major points that the other 2 (more professional) companies told us in regards to the siding practices. It's been a week, and we still haven't been given the written estimate. After the verbal estimate, he said he'd send that "as soon as (his) computer is up and running." The value for the project was very good- but then, it was coming with a lot less reliablity. [fyi- my husband read somewhere to be warned if a company says they can't wrap a house for hardiplank... the other 2 companies said that wrapping a house is a must; especially to be certified!] Maybe they should only stick to roofing.
