A week+ ago a gear in the garage door opener unit went out as the motor turned on but the chain did not move. I took off the cover and confirmed that it was indeed a gear problem. I originally called "Atlanta Garage Doors" and two sketchy individuals came out and tried to charge me $400 to change out the gear or $800 to change out a new unit. I said no and they then tried to negotiate "because they were already here." We agreed on what I thought would be reasonable to change out the gear which was a bad move w/ the previous red flag. They changed it out but then the motor would no longer turn on. They left to get some "ideas" and later called me and stated they could not fix it. They offer to install another unit w/ free labor and of course I asked them never to come back.
I then did some more detailed research online (as I should have done in the first place) and came across Atlanta Garage Doors & Openers. I shared the situation over the phone and the individual stated the board could have been a fried and shared options A (replace board) & B (replace unit) w/ costs. The technican came out while I was at work; he called me to explain that it was indeed the board because of the blinking light pattern. I went w/ option B and when I came home everything was done as planned. I wish I had called Atlanta Garage Doors & Openers the first time ... things when exactly as agreed and planned. Thanks.
