Simple and quick fix for a hefty price
My GE refrigerator was clicking for a consistent hour or two each day. Always Affordable showed up for their appointment after I called to remind them after their serviceman forgot. Tim arrived, was very nice and apologized for not calling to set up a time. He assessed the problem in 10 minutes, agreed that it was the control panel (which was consistent with what I found online), got the replacement part from his van, and installed it in 5-10 minutes. Always Affordable charged me $262, which Tim said broke out into ~$150 for the part (which I found online for $120), $90 for labor (which for 15-20 minutes of work is really steep), and tax. I regret paying Always Affordable to fix something I should've fixed myself, but I suppose this is the problem with repairs in general. Perhaps Tim was just too good and too efficient at his job!
Though I believe Always Affordable to be honest and hardworking, I will most likely not contact then again as the value did not live up to the name.
Edit 2pm 3/15/2011 - A manager called within minutes to explain that they make no profit on the part, and the $90 "labor" fee is actually a $65 trip charge and $25 labor. He said the trip charge is always said in advance, even though I told him the receptionist didn't on two opportunities, Tim didn't, and it's nowhere listed on their website. Bright side: Good to see that reviews matter to them.
