They do not stand behind their empty promises.
#1:I went in for a flat repair. They said it wasn't repairable, and added "it's dangerous to drive out with those tires". The old pressure & scare tactic. New tire cost:$400.
#2)Immediately started hearing a "noise". Got it checked out and was told most likely my struts were worn out. Got new struts. But, the noise was still there. One mechanic finally figured out that I had the wrong tire size. Went back to Discount Tire about 3 months later, and they said "oops, sorry". They changed all four out with an inferior set for free. Cost for struts: $400. Wheel alignment: $50. #3) 1 year and two months later, I noticed all four tires were starting to wear down on the outside edges (Have only put 17K miles on a 30K warranty) Also, 1 tire had a nail, and needed repair or replacement(Since I also had their "no hassles" free replacement certificate)
Their answer: Before they even checked out the tires they were trying to sell me new tires(not a good sign!) Their assesment:
Tires unreplaceable, due
1)to "uneven" wear. (The guy said that Rikens are cheap & wear out unevenly & prematurely)
2)nail is within 1/2 inch of sidewall (It was more like 2 inches), &
3) treads below 3/32. Most of the treads were well above this, but they took the reading at the lowest spot.
Bottom line:Their whole interest is to SELL, SELL, SELL, and not stand behind their empty promises. Sorry Discount, you've lost a customer.
