I stumbled upon About Going Places and decided to have them book a first class trip to China. Being an experienced traveler and avid photographer, I wanted to make sure that we chose the very best time to travel there. Since I am a bit anal retentive, I asked Sandye, the agent, on 3 separate occasions whether July was the best time to go. Each time she insisted that the weather would be perfect and that it would be a great time. Little did I know how very inaccurate she was. Incompetence was the result as she sent me there in the middle of rainy season! Furthermore, before even planning the trip, I gave her copies of my airline tickets so she would know our travel dates. I was provided with an extensive travel itinerary which I tweaked. It was to my amazement and dismay, when less than 1 week before departure, I was told that the itinerary had to be changed and we lost one of our days in Shanghai. I found out later that it was because Sandye had given the wrong travel dates to the agent coordinating our trip. Amazing. Even more amazing,I insisted on 4 different occasions that I absolutely did NOT want a particular hotel in one of the cities. In spite of this, she insisted that I take that hotel. Upon arriving, it was so bad that we had 2 leave after 1 night. It was absolutely horrible and should have never been recommended. They seem incompetent and don't appear to value good service or good customers. I would not recommend them at all.

About Going Places prides itself in its customer service. 75% of our clientele are repeat customers. We have many customers who have been traveling with us for our 18 years in business.
Mr. Weil walked into our office and presented himself as a very well traveled individual and amateur photographer. We offered him 4 different destination options--2 destinations he had not been to and then 2 that would be repeat trips for him. After 2 1/2 to 3 weeks of him doing extensive research (his words), he chose China. We set up an itinerary for him and tweaked it a number of times, altering the hotel choices and number of nights in each city/location.
Even though we have collectively traveled to over 97 countries we have not visited every hotel in every country. We have to trust our suppliers sometimes. The hotel in question was a very firm recommendation of our supplier and we let them know our dissatisfaction for the wrong hotel choice.
Upon returning from his trip Mr. Weil came in our office to complain about our services. He had a severe flight delay and missed a night in a hotel. He also felt overcharged for a laundry bill at another property. As per the flight delay--we had offered travel insurance to Mr. Weil to cover instances just like this, which he did not want. Our knowledgeable and well traveled clients know to purchase travel insurance on very expensive trips in order to protect themselves for these exact reasons. As per the laundry bill the hotel emailed the signed copy of Mr. Weil's bill where he approved the laundry order in question.
Mr. Weil's itinerary was just as he had wanted. He prided himself on his outstanding research of his destinations and asked countless repeated questions. We gave him our undivided attention answering his 123 emails (actual figure) to us and sat with him in our office for hours. We don't mind doing this at all. It is our job and passion assisting our clients. I don't feel that any trip/destination/itinerary would have made Mr. Weil happy. With all his extensive travel experience it's unfortunate the he has never been able to build a relationship with a travel agent.
Anyone questioning our services/competency are welcome to contact us. We have a long list of satisfied customers willing to vouch for our high level of service and competitive pricing
I usually just plan my vacations online and do not use a travel agent, however for a trip with a large group I wanted there to be no problems. I am so glad I did in this case because there were problems and when I called my travel agent they took care of everything. It saved me from having to get upset and ruining our vacation. I found this travel agency professional, very pleasant to work with, and there when I needed them.

Miscommunication, refusal to take responsibility for errors and no correction of errors; these three specifics lead to a lack of professionalism. Be very careful when using this agency.

I used this travel agency to book my honeymoon. They stayed late one evening in order to work around my schedule. They were very helpful in picking a destination and making arrangements!
