i took some heads in to be rebuilt. they were cracked. they said they would hook me up with the same casting heads. i took them home and they were different. not just different than my casting but 2 different heads different castings cc and plugs. they told me that the heads i brought back were not the ones they sold me. i had to eat the cost of those heads and go find some matching ones. i tell everyone not to wast your money there

This place reminds me of the garages from a time past. When mechanics did not have to be salesmen, they were mechanics. Every time I go there the work is done right, done fast and I am surprised at how much less I pay than taking it to a dealership. Richard is not a great front man but he is good at what he does. If you are looking for a fancy repair shop this is not it

I'm sorry there are those who were not satisfied with the work done at Action. As to my experiences, I have never found anything to complain about with this business. As a matter of fact, I recommend them highly for their excellent work. Richard has provided me with great service and advice over the last ten or so years I've done business with him. As an engine builder, I've come to rely on his expertise and quick turn around when I need something done. He has always come through, and I look forward to a continuing business relationship for the future. Again, as to those who had a bad experience, there are usually two sides to the story. I would be surprised if Richard didn't offer to work out the problem fairly before these people posted these complaints. He's always gone above and beyond for me.

I read the previous reviews and considerred them carefully. Now my experience... Richard Nash (owner of Action Cylinder Heads; Lakeside CA) hand built my Chevy Big Block 454 and the end result was a stunning Hot-Rod/Cruiser engine built from the block up (including the Zoops Serpentine Pully system). Before, during and after the build, Richard patiently fielded our questions. He took very precious over-the-phone and over-the-counter time to help explain and craft our engine to fit our needs, budget and expectations. Richard recommended Hyperetectic pistons to insure better fit-up and less expansion issues, an EnduraShine Edlebrock 750cfm carb with matching cross-air intake manifold and oval porting to match the mildly cam'd motor. I watched him (frequent trips to the shop to see the build progress) as he methodically and patiently weighed and shaved pistons and connecting rods then matching them up to insure a superbly balanced motor. Richard used a pristine 1st overbore Gen4 BBC core, sent the journals out for machining and installed roller rockers and roller cam to complete the build. My wife and I always found Richard to be helpful, knowledgeable and at all times, professional. Visit his facility. You'll see a constant flow of builders, dealership jobs, custom and commercial jobs of every kind, on any day. Ben Cole (Master Mechanic) has used ACH for the last 15yrs and he KNOWS motors; he referred ACH to me.

I had a similar experience with Richard (owner) last year. He has anger management issues and threatened to hold my car because I criticized his work. People take their cars to him because he charges the least. It's not worth it... you get what you pay for.

Action Cylinder Heads is no place to do business. The owner Richard is rude, uncouth, and just plain nasty. I needed some work done on my engine a little while ago. He couldn't fix the problem, and I had to keep returning to get my car repaired. He may be cheaper than the other places, but believe me, the money you save is not worth the headaches and hassles. Whatever happened to the adage that the customer is always right? Even if the customer isn't right, he should speak like a civilized human being instead of behaving like a Neanderthal.

Owner Richard displayed very scary, unacceptable behavior today. Intentionally blocked my car and refused to accept credit card payment! I had to call SD Co Sheriff's Deputy to get him to accept a credit card payment and release car! 1. I told the owner, Richard, that I wanted to test drive the car first, before paying, for the following reason: 3 years ago when he did similar engine work on my car, I had to bring the car back 4 times over a period of 4 months before it was properly repaired. At that time, he admitted that he never looked at the technical bulletins for my engine before working on it. Because of this prior experience, now, on 8/26/10, I wanted to drive it up some nearby hills to insure the compression was OK before paying him. He absolutely refused to allow this, even after I offered to leave my credit card with him as collateral. 2. Despite initially telling me that he accepted Visa/MC, decals of which were prominently displayed in his business, at the last second, he changed from accepting a credit card to accepting only cash just to keep me from taking my car. He absolutely refused to move his car blocking mine unless I paid $702.47 cash. 3. Shockingly unprofessional and threatening behavior. Shook his fist at me and pointed his finger in my face.

Looked all over San Diego for cylinder head repair shops. The best and least expensive. Work was done as promised and was done on time. Would reccomend to anyone who needs a cylinder head re-worked or replaced.
