Poor service, 8/12/2008

t's hard to see how a store like this can have poor service. Twice I've walked out of there because I couldn't get waited on.

Awesome, 7/25/2008

I was gearing up for a week long trip into Death Valley, Owen's Valley, Long Valley and around Mammoth. The guys in "the Shack" were great. They spent time with me told me in detail about the... packs, odds and ends etc. The level of service shocked me they are not there to sell you stuff you don't need. I am a student and explained I was on a budget, they gave me my options and were straight up about everything. I will say some of the gear is expensive but it is all quality and the stuff you buy here you will be able to use for decades. Many members of the staff are climbers, hikers themselves and know what you are about to get into. They have used the gear and can tell you what is what. So if you are going out for the day or going deep into the back country (where ever) stop in and I am positive you will not be disappointed.
