Very good work at an even better price!, 8/13/2014

Last year my car air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. I took it to one of those chain shops and they told me that the compressor was leaking and it needed to be replaced. They quoted me over... $1200. The very next day, my air was back to blowing hot air again. I assumed my leak was pretty bad since it only stayed cold for a day, but I couldn't afford their $1200 price, so I suffered all summer with no air. Jump to this summer, the first big hot spell hits and I can't take it anymore. I find Auto Cool thanks to the reviews here and other places. Even though it is quite a drive for me to get there, based on the reviews I decide to take my car up there and I couldn't have been more thrilled. They checked out my car and unfortunately they decided that the compressor did need to be replaced due to the leak, however, they quoted me a price that was more than half the cost of the other place. They also recommended some other work to replace my timing belt and tension spring. I had them do all the work and even with the extras, my final bill was still over $500 cheaper than the other place quoted me. These guys did good work at a very good price. This was one of the best auto repair experiences I have had in many years.

92 Honda Accord COLD Again, 5/26/2014

Last summer the AC went out, took it to a "muffler" shop where they recharged the system. Three weeks later, no AC. Returned to the shop and was told I needed a new compressor that would cost about... $900. Took the car to Auto-Cool this April. After diagnosis of leaking upper and lower valves and a repair estimate of less than $200, I was on my way in less than two hours. It has been two months since the repair and I'm still COOL!! These people are professional and conscientious and I would recommend them to anyone who needs competent AC repair.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

What is it these days with businesses thinking that you don't have other choices anymore? WE DO! I should have listened to my gut instinct with my initial call trying to schedule an appointment. Brad is who I encountered and he was very cynical and lacked any sign of professionalism. Kudzu has a word limit, but I left an extensive review on Yelp.com 5/14/14 with all the details. I would never do biz with this company and recommend that you steer clear of them as well.

Auto Cool Inc replied on 05-17-2014

When "rm17" brought her car to us on the first morning complaining of an inoperative A/C system we brought it in the shop and hooked gauges to it and in checking found that the a/c was working fine. we explained to her that she probably had an intermittent failure (we see 30-40 a week during the summer) and that for us to properly repair the system we would like to have it in the heat of the day so could hopefully catch it failing and make a recommendation for repair.I (Brad) explained to her that we see a lot of this type problem and that I would like to have the car in to the afternoon but she could not leave it. She took her car and we never did a repair or charged her any money. When she came back again the next morning to get it checked again I was having a bad morning and I was rude and short with her. I had just been verbally abused and insulted by another woman with an intermittent failure, we were short staffed on the counter (partner on vacation), I had a booming sinus headache (had already tried 6 ibuprofen with no relief yet) and we had an ongoing medical emergency in our waiting room (who we ended up driving to Kennestone ER). I should have been more patient and I apologize for the way I acted but here she was again in the cool of the day trying to get a car repaired that we could not see fail yesterday morning. Again I apologize for the way I acted and hope your a/c problem was minor (intermittent failures usually are once they are diagnosed).

Worth the Trip OTP

Had a problem with the AC in my 2006 Chrysler Sebring drawing too much power from the engine. My regular repair shop was not able to fix it. Dropped the car off at 7 am, they called at 8 am to give me the estimate, and car was fixed before 3 pm. There is a bus stop for Cobb Community Transit near the shop. The number 20 bus will take you to Cumberland Mall, and you can connect to MARTA there.

Not trustworthy

My experience with this company was not good. I would not use them and warn others to beware. They really have a sales pitch when you speak to them. Can't get a straight answer either.

Auto Cool Inc replied on 04-17-2013

Of all the criticisms a person could use, the words "not trustworthy" really insult a hard working, HONEST auto repair shop. For 30 years we have been performing HONEST auto a/c service and repairs at the same location by the same owners. The only "sales pitch" we have involves the cost for parts or labor (or both) required to diagnose, service or repair a broken a/c or heater system. Any work we sell is always approved by the customer before we do it. We do not spend ANY money without the customers permission! The reviewer does not state specifically what dishonest thing we did, but if he/she would contact me I would glad to try and clear up what could only be a misunderstanding. If calling, ask for Brad.

Go with a specialist

I had taken my van to two other repair shops over the past two years for an intermittent problem. One charged several hundred for an AC Tune-up, the other recommended a $2,000+ repair for a leak that involved ripping out the dash. These guys found a bad relay, confirmed there was no leak. Cost $150 and a couple hours of my time. Pays to go to a specialist.

Excellent Service

I highly recommend this shop. I brought in my vehicle with mysterious odor problem coming from car vents. They were courteous, through, and same day service. I came back for a follow-up, related problem and they did not charge me. They back up their work - special thanks to Brad. Thanks, Tom D

Outstanding Value

Our high-mileage Subaru's a/c was working sporadically and we found this repair company on Kudzu. They not only figured out what a chain store (that, admittedly, mainly focused on tires) couldn't figure out after having us wait all day, but figured out a way to fix a part on the compressor rather than replacing the whole thing, which resulted in big savings for us! We would definitely return to them if we ever had another car a/c problem and recommend them to friends.

Excellent service!

Like other reviewers, I too distrust auto repair shops and avoid them if at all possible by doing work myself. Lacking the tools to do A/C repair, however, I decided to take a chance on Auto Cool. I could not be more impressed and happy with their service. My 2000 Mazda had never had any A/C service but it turned out to simply need a recharge as no leaks were found. For about $100 we have ice-cold air in the car...better than new! Their shop was clean and well organized with some very high-end luxury cars being entrusted to this shop. I especially noted the number of older cars being worked on, and plan to take my 1991 Chevy truck back to them for conversion to R-134. These guys really know their A/C systems well and are honest and straightforward, only doing repairs that are necessary and NOT trying to pressure customers into unneeded repairs. Great job!

Very solid company

I am someone who has a general distrust of auto mechanics and do most of the work on my three cars myself. I had two problems with my ‘98 Tahoe - a refrigerant leak and a separate electrical problem - no fan switch high speed which I had already attempted to troubleshoot and gave up. The service team was great throughout the day with frequent phone calls updating me on what problems they were finding, how they found them, and the recommended repairs and costs. Unfortunately, the major repair was a compressor replacement ($$$) and given the age of this vehicle, they explained why it didn’t make sense to put a remanufactured part on it. The electrical problem turned out to be difficult wiring issue - labor only. They also offered me the options of replacing a high pressure hose that had a very slight (barely detectable) leak and replacing the radiator which I was already aware had a slow coolant leak. I passed on both. These guys seemed to be professional and honest and communicated clearly with me. So far, driving around in a very hot June and July, the A/C has been working well for a 14+ year old vehicle. I doubt they are the cheapest, but did a great job at a fair price.

Go to First

Weekend before my vacation, I thought I needed freon as AC had stopped blowing cold air in my 98 S10. I took it to Pep Boys, Saturday(my day off) they had my truck for 2 hours, explaining by state law they had to do a leak test and charge= $55.00. They told me needed new condenser, $1200 to fix. I said no thanks, went to Hot Cars-they didn't look at vehicle and said 700. While on vacation looked at Kudzu, gave great review for AutoCool,I called and found out open on Saturday, brought it in, was diagnosed as seals and hoses, fixed defroster problem-blowing through front vents all for less than 250.00.

Damaged My Vehicle & Denied It

I too thought this was a great business until I picked up my vehicle last night. I pulled into parking lot to find my bumper hanging down and my headlights now out of alignment. I brought this to the attention of the owner who was claiming no responsibilty before I could even explain what damage they had caused. It was obvious that a tech pulled my low sitting car too fast up the steep incline around the bay where the work is performed and knocked my bumper loose on the passenger side as well as my headlights out of alignment. The once very friendly owner turned quickly into an irritated, irresponsible jerk. I will never be back and I suggest you go somewhere else for the repairs. Don't take the chance of someone mishandlimg your personal property and only concerned about your credit card #!!!

Auto Cool Inc replied on 05-15-2012

The customers brought us their car to have the air conditioning topped-up with refrigerant. They knew the evaporator core is leaking slowly and just wanted to top it up and get the system cooling again. We did the work on Friday morning May 11 (I did it myself,GBC) and called to let them know it was ready. They said they could not come back on Friday to pick up the car so they paid their $77.68 bill at 10:07 a.m. Friday by giving us their card number over the phone. At the customers direction we locked up the car in our front side lot and put the key under the drivers mat. We always back the cars into the parking space so the customer can pull out easily.
The next time we heard from them was Monday morning May 14. the customer came in accusing us of crashing the right front fender of her car. I walked out to see the damage but could not see any evidence of damage...the fender looked fine. The customer says that we smashed her car and then parked it in the parking lot for her to pick up. She states the damage was done on a steep incline she claims exists in our parking lot. I showed her where her car was worked on and asked her to show me where this damage could have occurred, but she was unable to. Our parking lot is busy, we have multiple businesses on the property and any thing could have happened to their car between Friday morning and Sunday evening, We did not damage their car and she could not show me any damage. She said when they came to pick up the car Sunday night, her husband reinstalled the damaged front fender right there in the parking lot. If we had damaged the fender and it was that easy to reinstall, then wouldn’t we have reinstalled it too?
We try very hard to have happy customers, customer goodwill is critical to any small service business . Her car was out of our care for almost three days before she picked it up. I wish she would consider the possibility that we had nothing to do with the damage to her car (which she could not show me) before unjustly accusing us on this public forum.

Auto Cool Saved the Day!

After two weeks in HOTlanta with no A/C, I gave up and took to the internet to find a highly-rated mechanic. Auto Cool had rave reviews, and I found out why. They're professional and know their business. My repair cost a small fortune, but their price was under the market price and they gave me a 2% discount for bringing cash. Thanks, AutoCool!

very accomidating

Very friendly and accomidating. Fixed my compressor as promised at a fair price. I've used Auto Cool for two different occasion, each time, they have been professional providing estimates and ensured I was satisfied prior to departing. Even offerent to come back, after hours, to allow me to get my car when I couldn't make it by closing time. Highly recommended.
