Avis has quite possible the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Its a bit complicated but I will try to simplify. I left me sunglasses in the car. Realized this while on my plane, and called them. THey found the glasses. Agreed to mail them UPS, at my charge, to me after prompting from the corporate customer service agent. They charged me for shipping and put sunglasses in a plastic bag, not a box. Any amount of common sense would tell you this is not a good idea. You are not paying the bill so why would you not use a box. When told about this I was basically laughed at and told to take it up with UPS, which I told them I was doing. Great service, I spend about 7k a year in rental cars. That profit is going to National now. Thanks for showing me how much you care Avis. You can have your Avis First honor back.

I recently had the bad luck to have to use this avis for an insurance claim after someone crashed my car. I was told to call them and they would pick me up at the repair shop I was at. I called them at about 430pm and said I was ready to be picked up. I called back at 5, 530pm, 545pm, 550pm and started getting nervous because they closed at 600pm. I was assured everytime that someone was already on the way to pick me up. When 600pm rolled around, I was still stuck at the shop and they stopped answering their phones. I called the airport location and they said they would be happy to get me a car at a higher rate since they couldn't honor the local offices "insurance rate". I also would have to find a way to get to the airport. Luckily, the shop owner at the shop agreed to drive me home after I was left stranded and I was finally able to get a car the next day. Not exactly the "we try harder" I was hoping for.

Decent car selection and fast service, but not for everyone... Get a Wizard number! If you have one, you will experince another class of service and vehicles. If you don't get one, you get the higher-mileage cars and have to wait in lines. Do the smart thing and... Get a Wizard number!

I often have to locate and reserve a rental car for out of town business guests and I have never taken a customer here and been disappointed. they always have what I asked them for, although way too many of their cars are red. Last time I rented for myself when my car was in the shop they only had red cars left..but it was still a great car and the interior wasn't red.They did offer to let me turn it back in and get another color when they got one. but I didn't .
