Disappoints, 11/12/2007

I was impressed with the ambience when I first walked in and enjoyed the art on the walls. But it went downhill from then on. Service was abysmall. It was a good 15 minutes before water was served... and that too -after being reminded. Food arrived quite late. No complaints about the food as such - tasted good and was presented well. Its the extremely slow and non-attentive staff that bothered me the most. Perhaps they should hire more people or hire more experienced staff.

Save your time and money by not going there

Quite unprofessional Indian restaurant. Visited two times and they were consistent in food quality. You will not be sure about what you get is what you ordered. They take order for anything and mix 'some ingredients' to look like the dish you ordered. Some orders are served without the side sauces(chutney), if you don't happen to know that item is supposed to have chutney, that's it, you will not get it. Prices are at the high end of this ethnic food price range. I have been to many Indian restaurants which are quite good unlike this place. One good thing is Banaras is relatively cleaner than many other similar places and lot of waiting tables( may be for a reason). We will never go there again.

WE ACHIEVED NIRVANA

THIS RESTAURANT HAS MANAGED TO FIND THE PERFECT BALANCE IN AMBIANCE,HOSPITALITY AND FOOD. BEING INDIAN NOBODY COOKS BETTER THAN MOM BUT I MUST SAY EVEN MOM WOULD BE HAPPY IN A PLACE LIKE THIS. SERVICE WAS FANTASTIC BETWEEN THE WAITER AND THE MANAGER IAM NOT SURE WHO IS BETTER. I HAD THE THALI AND THOUGHT MOST THINGS WERE GOOD BUT I LIKE IT SPICY SO I FELT THE FOOD NEEDED HELP. MY KIDS AND HUSBAND LOVED IT ALL ESPECIALLY THE RASMALAI AND HOMEMADE MANGO ICECREAM.

A CLASS A PART

I have long awaited an indian restaurant of this sort with a decor that pleases the eyes, service that exeeds expectations and food that you cannot wait to come back for. A great clean place to hang out, finally Atlanta can boast of an Indian restaurant in the likes of other big cities like NYC and Chicago. Been there quite a few times food is consistently great although on friday the service slightly shaky but I must grant them this that they were completely packed with a waitlist to be seated

You cant 'waste' napkins here.

Their logo says:"Banaras-WHERE GUEST IS GOD". Apparently, they know how to offend GOD.This was my 2nd visit to Banaras and it will be my last, for sure! Oh boy! we made a mistake. One of the seat had spilt oil marks. We had to put one of their napkins on the seat in order to sit on the table. Then we took one more extra napkin and put our silverware on the napkin just because I dont want my silverware to be on the table cleaned with bleach and then in my mouth - PERIOD!We had our first round of appetizers - the vada and yoghurt - the vadas were again rock solid (Sorry Chef Subhash- you may have served in a topnotch rest. in Mumbai - but your vadas are toughest as ever). During that time the owner stopped by and said 'We have to pay extra for the napkins..' etc.etc.. We were dumbfounded as to why he was so upbeat on us using two extra napkins ??? We told him that if he was so concerned about the extra napkins he should place paper napkins on the table. And the second thing we told him is that one of us was sitting on the napking because there were oil spills on the seat. He was not polite and made a gesture which was offensive to us. We left right away. Ofcourse, we paid for the appetizer which went in our mouths. NEVER AGAIN will I suggest this place to our friends/colleagues/neighbors. My advice: If you really want to go to this place then TAKE YOUR OWN NAPKINS from home OR just dont take any extra napkins from the restaurant

Hidden Gem! Beautiful restaurant and fabulous meal

This is not an ordinary Indian restaurant! I arrived at the restaurant in the strip shopping center and was very surprised at how beautiful the decor was inside. The menu had a bio of the chef/owner and told of the chef's classical training and international resume. I tried the chef's daily special which was a multicourse meal including dessert. The food was definitly the best Indian food I have ever had in Atlanta. It was artfully presented and there was a complex blend of flavors throughout the meal. Prices are very low especially for the amazing quality of the food. The staff was very attentive and could answer questions about the food. You must try this restaurant!
