Ok Dr Backer is not a hold your hand mop your brow kind of doctor, but he probably saved my life. My regular doctor checked me out as I had some tests that indicated possible blockage of some arteries. She was pretty much just blowing it off as my ekg looked ok but I hounded her for a referral and she sent me to Dr Backer. He reviewed my medical history, the tests I had already had and ran a couple of his own. He said we needed to do a cath on Monday, this was Thursday. When he went in he found a major artery that was 98% blocked. I was a walking time bomb for a major heart attack. While doing the cath he implanted a stent in the artery and sewed me up. 3 days later I had the energy of ten years ago. He has followed me closely and today I took a stress test and I am all set to go on my Christmas Holiday. That all occured during the first week of November and now on December 2nd I am ok to resume all activities. Personally I'd much rather have a doc who is all about business than a gentle caring man who does really know what he is doing. I highly recommend Dr Backer. I bet my life on him!

When I moved to the Atlanta area, I needed to establish a relationship with a local cardiologist. My primary care physician sent me to Dr. Backer. Dr. Backer couldn't have cared less about my condition. As a matter of fact, he didn't even listen to my heart! I too was totally unimpressed. When I left his office, I immediately telephoned some acquaintances in the medical field to find another cardiologist.

I went to the emergency room at St. Joeseph's because of a heart ailment. The ER physician called Dr. Backer who was the cardiologist on call. I had a conversation with him. This guy questioned my motives for why I was there and why I was not contacting my cardiologist. Hey, buddy it was Friday @ 11 PM that is why I was not in contact with my cardiologist and at the ER. He essentially made my condition out to minimal. After this conversation I was ready to leave. The ER physician told me he was not a cardiologist but it was his opinion that if I left I was at great risk of death and he would contact another cardiology group if I wished. Thank God he did! He also stated this is not the first time he has had issues with Dr. Backer. To make a long story short I was in the hospital for a week and left with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrilator) in my chest and a possible diagnosis of a chronic condition that could greatly and probably will shorten my life. Sorry if I disturbed your peaceful Friday evening with my emergency Dr. Backer. Be sure I will never be in contact with you again. Stay away from this guy by all means. I wouldn't trust this guy with my dry cleaning let alone my heart!!!!!
