Bells Ferry Veterinary Hospital

During a visit, the vet found a heart murmur in 1 of our dogs. After spending over $300 for that dog (and $500 on another dog and cat), they told us that we needed to have an echo done to determine how big the murmur was. That cost $270- just to confirm the heart murmur. Then they told us that our dog needed an x ray to see how big his heart was for an additional $280.00. After getting scripts, we were told that our dog had to come back in another month for bloodwork ($100), another echo ($270) and then ANOTHER echo in 6 months. This was AFTER I explained that it was the holidays, AND we are having a baby in 2 months. All of this just to MONITOR the murmur as there is no way to fix it. We had to decline the last couple of procedures. I was told that they cannot treat syptoms and the only way to rule things out were to perform expensive tests.
I WILL say the doctors are very nice and knowledgable. HOWEVER, the front staff leaves A LOT to be desired. When I got the treatment plan for my dog and inquired why he needed another echo, the front staff person rudely said she couldn't tell me because she wasn't a doctor. The better response would have been to tell me that she was going to get a dr. to speak with me. She also told me that I "obviously misheard" the amount quoted to me over the phone. Poor customer skills for someone working the front office. We spent over $1000 in two weeks. I'm disappointed and feel like my pets are dollar signs instead of animals.

We received the best service from Dr. McClearan for our eleven year old pet rabbit. He is an excellent exotic animal doctor and offered the most helpful information on what to do and what to watch for when our pet took a turn for the worse. When we had to finally have our pet put to sleep he handled everything so well and we even received a wonderful card afterward from him and his staff. I can't say enough about this wonderful practice.

I feel comfortable every time I am in the hospital. The staff and doctors are caring, kind, and give me the tools to make a decision on my pets health care. I love how they educate me then leave it up to me to make the right decisions based on my level of care and financing without making me feel like a bad pet owner like some other places. The receptionist staff is always helpful and seemed pleased to see me and my pet every single time I walk through the door. The nursing staff is always great at explaining things in a reasonable manner without talking over me. The doctors are AWESOME! Love this place and can not imagine ever having a bad experience.

We recently boarded our two dogs here for the first time and had a great experience. They came home clean and happy. We have not to this vet for any other services (we will be when our dogs are due), so I can't comment on that yet. I will say the office is one of the cleanest I've ever been in and the staff was very friendly on the phone and when we dropped our dogs offand we met one of the doctors briefly when she did what I guess was a mini physical on them and talked to us about their habits/problems(free of charge - I was surprised about that) before they actually took them back to the kennel, and she was very nice. So far, I'm very happy.

Thanks to the Doctors and Staff at Bells Ferry Vet. We have been coming there since 1999 and you have always taken great care of my K9 kids.
