This "play" would have been suited for a Sunday School audience or perhaps a cute little way to show off kids at a family reunion. I cannot believe we paid nearly $40 for this. This is what I can't get over. I just can't believe they charge for it. I really, honestly can't believe it. I guess I should put some details. Pinocchio was a total of 30 minutes play time coupled with 15 minutes of intercession. Yes, that's right folks - the intercession was half the length of the play. As bad as I hate to say it, I'm glad it wasn't longer. Again, I just can't believe we paid for it. They should offer it for free and take donations. I just can't believe it.

We attended a production here with our kids and I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. It's a "hole in the wall" place with paint peeling, etc. The play was not very together. It had several false starts and more errors with the backstage, lighting & sound people than the actors. They didn't utilize any of the curtains so the changing of scenery and props occurred while we all watched (?) The actors were kids and all did great but I would have liked to see them perform at a much better place with better support staff who actually knew what was going on. I noticed that there were Goodwill tags still attached to a couple of the costumes! This was way overpriced for what we experienced and the Blackwell Playhouse is not a place we will consider returning to. I just hope those kids find a better venue to develop and share their talents.

Well, this is a nice little theater but there are some improvements that could be made. Most shows are good. Some shows are great, but some kid shows make you wonder "Why did they cast that kid?" Maybe these shows are desperate for people to play the characters, but the quality could be improved

This theater is unfair in its' payment practices. If you are promised salary for work, get it up front. I have been waiting for payment for accompanying the Sound of Music in Feb/March.

The majority of the productions I have seen at this theater have been enjoyable, a few were outstanding, however a couple were so bad that you had to wonder if the owner even peeks in at rehearsals before a play opens at his theater. The decor and cleanliness need improvement but the prices are fair. I find it annoying to read a review that is obviously submitted by an employee of the company, such as the lengthy one above -- I especially enjoyed the casual note that "they still have openings for summer camp" (sort of discounts the company as well as that particular review). Overall a good theater that kids really seem to enjoy.

Wow! Excellent quality show with a cast with extreme talent. They have two stages but only saw one. Limited concession stand and clean but not fancy bathrooms. Like many great theatres, hidden yet rich with artistic talent. Check it out!

My wife and I were looking for a good place to send our child for drama camp during the summer last year. We started checking places out during the fall/winter including going to shows and talking with parents. In the process, we came across a surprising theatre. We have now seen 5 shows at the theatre and all have been above average with plenty of roles for kids. I have spoken with numerous parents with their kids in the cast that all shared positive experiences. These parents emphasized the low cost to value/experience their kids received. The staff has been excellent with replying to emails. We are very impressed with this playhouse as an excellent drama alternative that gives kids more than classes but being in real productions with adults too. We have followed the audition notices and see there seems to be a consistent opportunity for kids to audition. We have yet to have our child cast but have met others in the process that have or are in the cast. Doesn't seem clicky and director/owner is very approachable. Also, they are NOT harsh to kids during auditions like other places we have found. Our child really enjoyed the camp and we plan to return this year. I inquired last week about availability and found out there were still opening for summer drama camps.

I discovered this theatre last year. What hidden treasure. I saw Secret Garden last night-Awesome. I had seen Sound of Music a couple of months ago and was thrilled to see my favorite kid actress from that show had the leading role of Mary Lennox in Secret Garden. I saw the show was double casted which seems a norm at this theatre with kids. The young 10 year old actress, Isabella Farkas, was oustanding! She really shines on stage...so believable. I highly recommend you go see Secret Garden. It also helps that the tickets are cheap. Check it out....

I had the pleasure of experiencing a performance of the Broadway musical CATS at this theater for the first time recently and was extremely impressed by the caliber of cast and performance. Will definitely go back to enjoy other productions.
