A new sheriff in town!, 7/20/2010

We have enjoyed many meals at the new Blue Rock Inn, both in the dining room and on the terrace. The food has always been delightful and well presented, with many interesting wines to explore. Thank... goodness for such a delightful country inn with a spectacular Blue Ridge setting. What more can one ask? Ah yes, they have rooms if you stay a bit too late to drive home.

A Country Treat, 7/18/2010

The Blue Rock Inn is a rarity -- a country restaurant/lodge done with elegance. The menu is short, but each item is done superbly. The wine list is priced from $19-$70 and the choices are excellent.... The setting is incomparable. The Blue Rock Inn does not attempt to compete with the Inn at Little Washington. And the experience is very different, though very satisfying. The Inn at Little Washington is a four-star operation. The Blue Rock fully deserves a three-star rating, which is very good indeed.

Delightful Country Repast

I agree with the review wholeheartedly except for the 2 stars. I realize 4 stars are hard to get, but so is an overall dining experience like this. You don't get great views and country-ambience plus perfect sweetbreads (as the review notes, they were just right) in many places, even in France. As a former fan of Gerard's Place, my hopes were high, and they were met completely, even though Gerard is only the "sensai" here. Don't bypass the desserts, as many often do. They were phenomenal -- not only the mango tarte tatin, but the fresh strawberries in a creme fraiche/mild cheese concoction. Gerard has managed to bring 2 star Michelin skill and flair to a bucolic setting at reasonable prices. Do yourself a favor -- go and enjoy.

A Dinner to remember

I have the opportunity to sample a lot of restaurant during the year but so far it is the best dinner I had this year. The food was flawless, the setting enchanting and the service effective. The prices are moderate for such a quality of food. I will go back soon and yes it deserves four stars.

New Inn

Considered in a country restaurant context the Blue Rock Inn should be rated 4 stars. The number of entrees should be considered a plus, not minus: do a few, and do them right. Our party of four sampled widely, and all of us were delighted. Service was informed and engaging. A perfect break from oversized Washington to a human sized Washington.
