Smelly, 9/21/2009

We were in Buckhead on Sunday afternoon and nowhere we wanted to eat was open yet, so we eneded up at the Buckhead Diner. Well I have to tell you the first thing that hit me was the smell. It made me... nauseous. It smelled like an old daycare or cafeteria, I could not quirte put my finger on it. My BF did not seem to notice it though, and he notices everything, so maybe it was just me? The smell made it hard to choose from the menu because nothing sounded good with that odor wafting into my nose. I settled on the tuna tartare appetizer, topped with wilted lettuce and a greasy chip, and was so full of connective tissue which made it unappetizing and difficult to eat. BF salmon chips were soggy and the greek salad was not very tasty. On the bright side, The crab cakes were good, not great, asparagus was perfectly steamed and my mashed potatoes were not bad although I did not eat many of them. The taste of food is largely influenced by your sense of smell and everything was taking on that old daycare smell...it's the smell of the lysol they use in the brown bottle to cover up the smell of dirty diapers (and never very sucessfully). We skipped dessert because nothing sounded really good. I hate to go on about the smell but it just ruined the whole experience...so I'll balance that with some more good points..the service was good, polite, and prompt, and everyone had a very neat appearance and were very nice. And that's all I have to say about that.

Blue Cheese Chips and Sea Bass are exquisite!, 7/06/2009

This place is nice, yet it also offers incredible comfort food at reasonable prices. Service is excellent. Sea Bass is beyond tasty, and the Blue Cheese Chips are a staple. Our favorite place in... town.
