BMM Inc. was contracted to repair or replace an old sump pump that had been intermittently failing at a property that I own. 2 weeks after they were there, the sump pump failed completely, soaking the basement. They went out there again; their tech called me and said that the pump that they'd failed to fix wasn't the problem. He said there was a crack in the foundation that the water was coming up through. The "crack" that he was looking at was in the thin layer of concrete over the drain tile that empties into the sump. The drain tile filled up with water when the pump failed; now water was coming up through the floor there. Once he replaced the sump pump the water level in the basement immediately went down. Hmmm - I asked him to tear out the soaking wet carpet so everything would dry out and to prevent water from soaking up into the drywall from the carpet. He said that we would tear it out and leave it outside to be removed later. I arrived the next day. No carpet had been removed. Drywall was now ruined since water soaked into it overnight. I called the tech to ask why he hadn't torn it out the night before as promised; he said that he had gotten another call and left, but that I should be glad that he hadn't torn it out since it would be cheaper to have someone else do it.
