In late winter, my husband and I began looking for someone to create an overall landscape plan. After several estimates, we were most impressed with Brendan Smith and his ideas and the cost was... comparable to the other estimates. Brendan created the initial plan and worked with us on minor changes. We got several estimates on installation of the plan and, again, choose C&M. Our project was a large undertaking including tear out of existing plants, removal of large ivy beds , redesigned beds to cut down on the amount of lawn, and hardscape. The lot slopes down to the backyard and had no safe access from the front to the back. Since we are older, slippery grass and a fall could be traumatic. Brendan designed a stairway and retaining wall with wide comfortable steps that make a graceful transition to the back yard. The work done by his crew was high quality from the tear out to the hardscape of the steps and walls. The attention to detail on the installation of the steps and walls was second to none, from creating the correct footings to ensuring everything was level. We had a beautiful Japanese maple that had been planted in the wrong place and had outgrown its location. Brendan was the only one who wanted to move the tree instead of removing it and they did so...very successfully. We also discovered drainage issues that had to be addressed. Brendan worked with us to change the plan so we could stay within budget. The entire crew was pleasant and professional.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
I've given five-star ratings only twice before, but feel I have to this time, too. I paid the refundable consulting fee to Michael Staley to evaluate our front yard unpermitted retaining wall and to... estimate costs to tear it down, reestablish yard slope, and seed. I was surprised and pleased that he was so knowledgeable and considerate of our need to keep costs down because we were sick about having to do this to sell our house next year. When it started raining and I emailed that they should put up silt fencing, the job was done within hours. His crew tore the wall down and hauled masonry away in 2 work days, and sloped the yard for grass in another. Because he was able to use some of our dirt on another of his projects, he saved us thousands on landfill costs and didn't hesitate to pass the savings on to us, a rarity with Contractors. Because we'd save so much, we decided to sod instead of seed, one more day's work, and still ended up below his original estimate. If we had only found him to build the retaining wall years ago, we wouldn't have had to tear it down now. He kept our future home sale always in mind and acted in our best interests the entire time.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

My backyard has a swimming pool. With work and my family we had never taken the time to really fix up the landscaping around the pool area. It would be defined as average. Now, Thanks to C&M, my neighbors are talking, in a good way. Thanks for the great work.

I had a backyard that was oddly shaped and stayed soggy most of the time. I wanted a stone patio, veranda, landscaping, deckwork, french doors and more to be installed. Brendan drew up the plans, helped guide me with suggestions and delivered the project on time and on budget! It turned out better than I had ever imagined it could! He resolved the drainage issues (the "flood" proved it). I would highly recommend C&M Residential.

As a contractor in North Georgia, I strongly rely on the companies I work with. With Brendan, Michael, and the rest of the team at C&M, I can rest easy and know that my customer will be taken care of with no questions asked. Doing whatever it takes to make a customer happy is a trait that I'm glad I share with the good folks at C&M. I have and will continue to refer them to my customers.

In the summer 2008 I discovered a section of my brick patio just outside of my sunroom was sinking. After having 4 or more companies come out to assess, we hired C&M. We met with an owner, Michael. They correctly assessed that the sink hole extended well under my sunroom and threatened the structure. They gave us references from several other sink hole customers and in the end, they showed they had experience with this. They coordinated with an engineer on supporting the sunroom and then devised and implemented cross beam support, and ended up digging out about 20 full size trees the builder had burried. This was not an inexpensive proposition, and you do pay for C&M's experience, but in the end we were convinced we made the right call. They finished the sink hole and I liked the quality of their work so asked them to bid on the "rebuilding" of my back yard. Their bid was competitive and they went on to completely rebuild the backyard landscape and they handled the design (thanks Brendan), masonry, stone patio and walkway, fencing, plant selection and installation, drainage, and also built a pretty large pondless water fall and fire pit. They have done an impressive job on a big project (thanks Nick). when i had any issues or concerns (not unusal in a large job like this) I could always talk to directly to the owner. Overall, they are a very good company with cradle to grave service.

No one advertises as a specialist in residential bridges so I did a lot of searching before I chose C & M Residential Services. My short list came from Kudzu.com and BBB. C&M got my business because though not the least expensive, first impressions were all positive. For example, my primary contacts are both experienced professionals and leaders in the company, Michael Staley (a C&M owner) and Brendan Smith, landscape architect. Both were very generous with their time to explain the technical aspects of the project so that I could decide among the alternatives. And, they were knowledgeable, accessible and responsive from early until late. My project was reviewed and approved in advance by several in my countyís erosion control and other departments which went smoothly because of C&Mís reputation and Brendanís plan. And even when Mother Nature added challenges, work proceeded in an orderly way and I was kept informed of all changes. So it turns out that my first impressions were correct. I love the look of my new bridge and our yard when I pull into the driveway. The best benefit is probably that C&M does so much more than just residential concrete work Ė now I know and trust a company that can help me with landscape design and maintenance, a new deck, stone walkways, and on and on!

We've had the pleasure of working with Brendan Smith at C&M Residential on several occasions. He was able to help us with severe drainage issues that was threatening the foundation of our home. He was able to resolve the problem for us! He also designed a very beautiful landscaping design and implemented that for us as well. We recommend C&M Residential and will use them again!

My experience with C&M Residential was a very positive one. After my call they came and looked at the backyard and presented me with the design. The finished product exceeded my expectations. All their workers were very professional and the work was done on time. Thanks a million for a good job. My visitors are quite impressed. Joycelyn

C&M performed a major overhaul to the outside of our home last year. They were extremely professional to work with. They completed the project to our extreme satisfaction and in a timely manner. They continue to handle our regular maintenance in a very competent manner. We will look to them when we are ready to make additional upgrades.

Brendan's plan was exactly what I had asked for: a low maintenance slow growing landscape that was reasonable to plant. It was all of the above and I love how it looks -I smile every time I pull in my driveway. C & M's crew were all professional and did the job in a reasonable amount of time. They re- landscaped my front yard and replaced a small patio in the backyard with a larger one. Great work!

C&M Residential Services did some major work for us this year on two different occasions and we couldn't have been more pleased. They are honest, thorough and follow up with any problems or questions on the job. I recommend them highly. Cheryl & Ron Baer, Acworth, GA

Part of project was replacement of deck. It has only been a couple of years and the deck is falling apart. Looks worse than the 15year old deck they tore off. Boards warping/cracking/sap leaking. E-mailed me the final bill and were at my door asking for their money before I got the e-mail. No oversight of project. It was sub contracted out and C&M never looked at the work during or after the project completion.

I have read this review a number of times and can not figure out who you are. Here at C&M we try to manage the expectations of our customers as well as we can and always encourage customers to call us when they are not totally satisfied whether it is in 15 days or 15 years. We believe that the servies that we offer are capable of lasting for many years with a reasonalbe amount of maintenance. To my knowledge, whomever you are, we never received any word from you as to your dissatisfaction with our service. I would value the opportunity to take a look at the deck that you are disappointed in and see what can be done. Please contact me via email or telephone to discusss. Thanks Michael C. Staley, President, C&M Residential Services, 770-509-5191, firstname.lastname@example.org
I see this company changed from Residential to Landscaping. Our experience with an Ipe wood deck was not good. We were told that it was low maintance and worry free. Wood was not kiln dried and shrank. Later they said they were now getting kiln dried rather than the air dried we got. The oil stain faded in a couple of months. It was explained to us that the weather was the factor. We were patient for months. Then the only way they said to fix the problem was to put on a very expensive roof over the deck, so it would not get the sun. We could not afford this on top of the original expense.$$$ They did do a wonderful landscape --lost a few plants, and yes I will attribute that to the weather (drought) and felt we were very lenient in that matter. In the end with a threat our sue, they did come back and reposition the deck flooring. They said it would not accept a colored stain. We experimented ourselves and it has held up nicely. We ended on a sour note. Sorry that it had to happen that way. They may have been going by the manufacture's info, but there was alot of back peddeling, and luckily we had all e-mail exchanges to back us up.

Judy and Bob, We try to keep everybody happy. I of course do not see things exactly as you do but I do agree on the fact that we did have an unfortunate experience with and Ipe wood deck. Please remember that the Kiln Dried wood was not available to us at the time that we wuilt your deck and that the weather we had was indeed the equivalent in drought of the 100 year flood is to rain. I also agree that our supplier of the wood let us down the a degree and left us without the support we needed to make you happy. Please also take note of the fact that we did slowly but surely do everythign that we could do to remedy the issues and that you have an exceptional deck in appearance and longevity. I am sending you this note primarily to let you know that I have recently discovered a type of oil for the ipe that is supposed to be far superior to what has been available to us in teh past. It comes to us in a plain and tinted variety. I am wondering what the overall outcome of the Jarrah Brown oil was since you applied it yourself. I know that you wrote this review some time ago and so I wonder how it has performed through another tough summer. I would also like to offer to clean and try this new oil on your deck at no charge to you the next time that it needs to be oiled. Thanks and please contact me at your convenience. Michael C. Staley, President
We had a very problematic backyard that had a steep slope and bad drainage. C & M transformed our backyard into something beautiful and usable, something we hadn't had in the 7 years we'd been in our home. The landscape architect and crew were very detail oriented and flexible resulting in a truly transformed back yard that met our needs perfectly.
