Very romantic with delicious food. Small & intimate so seating is sometimes a challenge but it is worth the wait. Will definitely go back again!

A Little Bit of Alsace in Decatur

If you have ever had the benefit of traveling the region between Germany and France and you now pine for the incredible food of the region, then reserve a relaxed evening to visit Cafe Alsace. It's a regular haunt for Francophiles and Anglophiles alike. Everything here is fresh, the bread is baked daily, the herbs are freshly prepared, and the atmosphere is convivial and enchanting. To go over the finer points, you must note that this is a very real Alsatian restaurant, where dinner is not to be rushed through on the way to a movie. This is a place to bring great acquaintances, friends, or relatives, where the entertainment is the food, the atmosphere, and the conversation. We were fortunate to find this gem of an establishment, as well as meeting Benedicte, one of the founders of the restaurant. Decatur and Atlanta are the better for entrepreneurs such as her.

I popped into Cafe Alsace recently for dessert and coffee only (had dinner somewhere else). The dessert -- a bread pudding -- was amazing. I really enjoyed it. I thought the owner was also good to seat me for just dessert and the ambiance was good. This appears to be a good neighborhood place.

This restaurant is a FIND. Very quaint and intimate. Excellent food. Try the "Spaetzle alsaccienne"! YUMMY! (Not necessarily low cal, though!) :-)

The food was extreamly simple and awful. People were showing up with reservations and turned away because there was no room. Wine was of poor quaility and over priced. Wait time for a house salad was 30 minutes. Worst restaurant I have ever visited.

OK it's NOT an italian place (thank goodness) it's Alsacian. Try the Beff Borgeneon. It's to die for. Also major props for small tables and candlelit lighting. Reminds me of very high end restaurants in small European cities.

After reading great reviews, we decided to give Cafe Alsace a try. The service was fine. The food was just okay, though. I ordered the spaetzel with ham and onions. The sauce was very tasty, but there was hardly any ham in it at all. Just a few lonely little peices, each about one centimeter square, if that. Mainly, it was a dish full of doughy noodles. (Sort of like the kind you'd find in chicken and dumplings). My companion had the crepe special with chicken. Tough, chewy chicken, that is. Salads were okay...still don't get why they put niblets corn in it. Wine was overpriced. Won't go back.

Stepping through the door at Cafe Alsace is like taking a little trip to France. The entire experience is a treat. We live nearby, eat there often, and have never had a bad meal. The staff are pleasant, attentive, and just friendly enough. The food , especially the desserts , is very special. Take a little romantic trip and visit them tonight.

I was really looking forward to our visit to Cafe Alsace based on reviews found here and in Zagats. I order the special which was a pork loin stuffed with black truffles. Sounds great, doesn't it? What I got was a piece of meat that was so over cook I could hardly chew it (what a shame) and tasted really awful. There was not even a trace of truffle in it. It also came with over-cooked veggies and a dollop of what looked like creamed potatoes but was so over-cook I had to use my steak knife to saw into it. There was nothing inside when I pried it open. The salad with their signature fig dressing wasn't very great either. I wouldn't normally bother to write a review but my experience was so bad I just had to put in my 2 cents. It is a shame too because it was our anniversary and we don't get to go out to eat as much as we would like because of our baby. I'm not even picky or fussy when it comes to food. I do, however, expect the food to be edible! This may sound harsh but it is true.

A Touch of France in Decatur

We have visited France several times and I must say, I felt like I was walking into an authentic French Cafe upon entering Cafe Alsace. A real surprise in Decatur. We ate at the Cafe Alsace last weekend (February 2006). The food was authentic, as are the owners, French. The area of France, Alsace, is known for its mixture of German fare in their cuisine, the cafe offers that same mixture. The service was pleasant but busy. It is a very small space with perhaps 15 tables, but with a warm, cozy feeling. The prices were reasonable. The creme brulee was wonderful.

Cute cafe in downtown Decatur. I particularly recommend the pate (best pate I have ever had...portion is HUGE though!), trout (you may need to get there early, this sells out), spazele, & most crepe specials. The only real downside is that they do not take reservations (except for special dinners like Valentines Day) and the wait time can be unpredictable. Things would probably go more smoothly if they took reservations. Ah well, still worth it!

Cafe Alsace is a very cute and friendly place. My husband and I have gone there for several Valentine's Day dinners. They do a nice pre-set menu. It is not a great place for picky people. The food is a little unusual, but it is always good. Very small and only a few tables call ahead for a Friday or Saturday night.

The cafe is very old-world and quaint, sort of like a tearoom. Food is good but often too salty depending on who'x doing the cooking. Great for lunch due to the express menu for crepes and quiche. Salads very good too.
