Canvas is past its Prime - Going downhill fast
This is the second restaurant I've been to in Atlanta in the last 2 weeks and have ordered panini's. Nice building and design make you feel chic. Does anyone in Atlanta know how to correctly make a panini? At this place, we ordered the roast beef panini and the southwestern turkey panini; both were cold in the middle! The roast beef sandwich had to be dissected of all the gristle and large amounts of fat not trimmed from the beef and the flavor was uninspiring. The southwestern turkey sandwich was also cold in the middle, the cheese not melted and it was supposed to have chipolte mayo as the seasoning tasted as if it ws just mayo - very plain and not at all southwestern. This sandwich was a large disappointment. I and my wife went to the restaurant at 1pm on Thursday, Jan. 20th, 2011 just as the major lunch crowd was dissipating so we expected good service, good food based upon the reviews from this site. Please tell the owner to hire someone who knows how to make panini's! I left feeling still hungry, the sandwiches are not huge as someone else posted. I will not be returning to this establishment.

Service with Apathy
We dined outside for my first experience. I had the beet salad.
The beets were supposed to be "thyme roasted". They were not roasted. Just some canned beets crinkle cut and slapped on top of a bed of lettuce. Lavash was stale, and if there was Thyme in it, I couldn't taste it.

It began to lightly rain. A server came out and put up an umbrella for another table, passed us by, then disappeared.

"Well, that was weird" we said. So my friend went inside to ask for an umbrella. The server said "it will be a minute".

Oh sure! We'll just get rained on, thank you.

A minute or two passed and a man came out with an umbrella and put it up on an EMPTY table.

Okay, whatever, he's going back inside for another one.

He comes back with another umbrella, approaches our table, smiles at me and says "excuse me", and puts the umbrella up at ANOTHER EMPTY table behind us!!

The man trots away. Enters the restaurant - Never seen again.

Those previously empty tables fill immediately. Our server comes out 5 minutes later and informs us that they gave out their last umbrella. "Sorry" doesn't really cut it at this point.

Where's the courtesy and common sense? Apparently they thought we enjoy eating in the rain. Not a bit of concern from them.

Can't say much for the menu as I only tried one combo. The menu looks interesting. Prices are fair. Too bad I won't be coming back.

1st & LAST - staff incompetence.
My best friend took me here because she really liked it. We sat outside. I had the beet salad and mushroom soup. The beets were supposed to be "thyme roasted" beets and special greens. It looked as if they just took some canned beets and crinkle cut them, plopped them on a bed of iceberg, and sprinkled sunflowers. Taste was mediocre. The lavash was stale. Good soup and yummy desserts. Then, it began to lightly rain. The server came out and put up an umbrella for the table next to us, passed us by, then never came back. "Well, that was weird" we thought. So my friend went inside to ask her for an umbrella and she said "it will be a minute". Oh sure! We'll just get rained on, thank you.A minute passes and a man comes out with an umbrella and puts it up on the EMPTY table next to us. Wait, there's more. Here's the kicker: He goes in, comes back out with another umbrella, approaches our table, smiles at me and says "excuse me", and puts the umbrella up at ANOTHER EMPTY table behind us!! Then walked away and never came back.Meanwhile, those previously emptied tables were immediately occupied. Our server comes out 5 minutes later and informs us that they gave out their last umbrella. "sorry" doesn't really cut it at this point. No common sense. Apparently they thought we'd enjoy eating in the rain. We could sprout daisies from our heads and be a part of the scenery or decor. My friend was embarrassed for recommending me to Canvas. I can't say much for the menu as I only tried 3 items. It looks interesting and I would have liked to try some other items. It's a shame. I won't be coming back.Canvas will forever be, the butt of my jokes for bad restaurant service. I will definitely share this experience with everyone that I know.

Dan T has no clue what he is talking about!!!
I love this place!! So far I have been four times this month and each time I bring someone new with me. There is so much to choose from that its impossible to order the same thing twice! I live in dekalb county and somehow find some reason to drive up there for lunch! Good Job!!!

Good Food... If You Can Wait
Canvas has a great location - located in the shadow of Kennestone Hospital, it attracts a lot of business. However, this is also a downfall; many times, the wait to just order can be over 10 minutes, and calling ahead doesn't help much. The food is delicious and filling, however it can get expensive - be prepared to pay over $10 for a lunch, and wait up to 15 minutes just to get your foot in the door!
