I learned to build homes in Alaska in the 80's when a contractor actually built the home from ground up. Quality, ethics, customer service mattered to the contractors I learned from. We (my family) got back into construction in 2006 with the goal to build a premiere design-build Landscaping & Remodeling Company. And ultimately, to get back into building homes and light commercial construction. The door way back into the trade started in the Home Repair & Handyman business.
Early on,.. I became aware that the standards and practices that I had learned in Alaska had diminished in the construction business. I was appalled at the lack of quality in construction on the houses I was hired to work on. Almost every customer I worked for, had a horror story about an experience with a contractor they had hired. (I also want to note that along this journey I have met some very ethical, high-quality contractors) All this has led to the forming of the team at Cascadia Design Build and the building of our web site and the blog center. This site is the platform we are using to educate the community on the complex construction industry. Our vision is to raise the level of consumer awareness and to help lead the way for sustainable design and building in our community.
