Just moved into an older home that never had cable ran to it from the road (driveway is about 300 feet). I am also not a huge fan of AT&T/Deathstar so I did not want DSL. A friend suggested Clear, so I started to do a little research & despite some of the negative energy out there I decided to give Clear a shot. I purchased the Clear Hub Express/Router for $50 from a Clear dealer in Norcross and signed up for the unlimited plan for $49.95. I am not a HUGE demand user but I do stream NetFlix and Amazon video a few times a week. Streaming works fine and I have yet to have an issue. About 3 times a week I will also do a speedtest(speedtest.net) and I consistently get 8-12MBpS down and about 1MBpS up. I am VERY happy with the service. I love the fact that EVERYTHING is wireless (the service & the router). After using the service and being very surprised with the speed my guess is that most of the negative reviews out there are mostly mobile users as well as users that are using the service for malicious files/torrents and such. I live out near Stone Mountain in the Smoke Rise area and again the service is GREAT!

I have had Clear for my internet and phone for 2 years. In the 1st year the service was good. Over the last year it has degraded and is now to the point where my phone and internet don't work during some parts of the day and when they do work they drop after 15 minutes. The service representative told me there was congestion and that I may experience difficulties during peak hours. When I asked him what peak hours meant he honestly replied "morning, afternoon and evening". I'll call Clear and they will boost my priority on the on their tower and I will have fast internet for a couple hours. Then..... it degrades back to where my phone and internet start dropping and won't connect at times. They offered me a $25 credit to my bill for my issues. What a crock! 1 year of slow or non-working internet and phone and all they want to do is give me a $25 credit. I can get 18mbps download speed through another provide for basically what I am paying for my Clear dis-service. Stay Clear of Clear!!!!!!!!!

Unless you like speeds SLOWER than dial-up, I suggest you stay far away from Clear! Check out more recent reviews than 2010. I have had Clear since 2009, and I was very happy in the beginning. For the past 9 months, however, my speeds have slowed to a crawl - sometimes I can't even load a simple Google webpage! They have admitted to me both on the phone AND in writing that they throttle customers who watch videos (such as Netflix and YouTube) or use Skype - even if you are like me and only use it once a week or less! They have signed up too many customers for their network to handle and this is how they control it now, rather than expanding their network. I live within 1/4 mile of SIX towers and can't get decent service! They claim to sell you "unlimited" service - but that is a complete LIE! It is so NOT worth the few dollars you may save, considering you probably won't be able to use the internet anyway. Even Comcast is better than this service. Stay away!!!

Be careful with clear. I signed up for a month to month contract with clear when they first came to Atlanta (and got a special deal) and when I initially tried to cancel in the first 30 days (their service was great where it worked and horrible where it doesn't) they gave me discounts to stay. When I finally did give up and try to cancel, they told me I'd have to "buy out my 2 year contract". I didn't agree to a 2 year contract but that's what they changed me to and kept stating "you agreed to a 2 year contract". No I didn't. Then Clear used bully style tactics to try and extort money out of me that I am refusing to pay. If not resolved properly, I will file a State Attorney General complaint for deceptive practices. The rep also argued with me as to where their service works. Great tactic for someone already irritated at the service. Unless you're just using it at home, don't even bother. And if you're in your first 30 days, be careful. They'll try to use your 30 days to "Get a technician out". Then don't be surprised if you get a surprise 2 year contract that they want you to buy out. Lovely business practices. Their comment, "you can't have it in writing, we're a paperless company". The only thing they will send you is an email confirming your plan. Check it carefully. Bait and switch seems to be their tactic on your plan!!!

Clear downloads files at around 50kB/s. That is a top speed. That is a bad top speed. It is a complete waste of money and does not even remotely match up to what it was supposed to be. I AM VERY, VERY ANGRY AT HOW OFTEN IT GOES OUT OF COMMISSION. Every time it rains, I lose my internet. Cloudy day? Things slow waaaaaaay down. I even had to reload this page several times and wait 10 minutes to get it to pull up so that I could write this angry complaint. DO NOT USE CLEAR, unless, of course you want to WASTE YOUR MONEY ON BAD INTERNET.

I opted for Clear Internet Service and Clear Voice for our home. The combo price, even after the special rate expires will save us $20/month. I replaced Earthlink and the most basic AT&T land line service. We get 3 or 4 bars of Clear signal consistently in our East Point neighborhood. Most impressive was the customer service delivered by Tony Butler (678-438-7255, P'tree Center kiosk) and the Clear phone support. Tony happily came out to the house on a Friday evening to help get the Clear Voice service connected correctly. The phone support helped troubleshoot another issue that I didn't discover until a couple days after Tony had left. It just needed one more hard restart to the system. Clear seems noticeably faster than our Earthlink DSL, and the connection has been completely reliable so far. Earthlink's connection had been failing to recognize our computers every time, finally the connection went away entirely, and then the company wanted us to pay for shipping and to commit to one year more of service to replace a faulty modem. I had been their customer for more than 14 years. I'm very pleased with Clear so far, and we get way more phone features than we did with AT&T, and for $14 less a month.

I was sold clear service through a distributor. He assured me the speeds I saw in my home were not typical. Each time I complained to him about consistent sub-par speeds he told me to move the antena or buy more hardware. I expected better service because I live less than 1.5 miles from a Clear ISP brick and mortar store and every weekend I see clear distributors in all my local electronics stores (Bet Buy, Fry's). I called customer service. A fellow named Patrick agreed to call me back in a week to tell me the status of the ticket I opened on Oct 3. 2.5 weeks later I had to call and spend an hour on the phone tracking Patrick down. He left no notes in my file about his commitment to call me back. It appears he told me whatever I wanted to hear in order to shut me up. I pay full price each month, but I have never measured speeds matching the minimum advertised rate. I must pause videos to wait for them to buffer. Keep your cable or DSL line. Clearwire is not honest or capable enough to be trusted with such a valuable service.
