    STAY FAR AWAY FROM CLEAR!

    Unless you like speeds SLOWER than dial-up, I suggest you stay far away from Clear! Check out more recent reviews than 2010. I have had Clear since 2009, and I was very happy in the beginning. For the past 9 months, however, my speeds have slowed to a crawl - sometimes I can't even load a simple Google webpage! They have admitted to me both on the phone AND in writing that they throttle customers who watch videos (such as Netflix and YouTube) or use Skype - even if you are like me and only use it once a week or less! They have signed up too many customers for their network to handle and this is how they control it now, rather than expanding their network. I live within 1/4 mile of SIX towers and can't get decent service! They claim to sell you "unlimited" service - but that is a complete LIE! It is so NOT worth the few dollars you may save, considering you probably won't be able to use the internet anyway. Even Comcast is better than this service. Stay away!!!

    This review is for Clear internet service, or Clearwire - same company. I had great speeds the first month. 3-6 mbs, which is what's advertised. After the first month the bandwidth was in the pits. .2-.8 mbs...1mbs on a very good day. Yes, those are decimals. The 5 times I called to compain, they said it was on my end. I always had 3-4 bars on their modem and I live close to their tower and a new computer that is awesome on everyone else's connection. the tech support "didn't understand why I couldn't get an acceptable download speed." Finally I re-wired my house (which is what I didn't want to do in the first place) and mounted the modem in my attic. Same crumby bandwidth. Let me see if I can guess... Clearwire signed up too many customers and now they can't supply any of them with the bandwidth they promise. they then blame it on the customer to try to screw them out of a few more months of payment. Don't trust this company. After the first month, I have NEVER been able to stream video, even from Youtube and news channels. Just pay for your cable service and grit your teeth and pay their price. It's better than being repeatedly disappointed by Clearwire internet. You'll end up going somewhere else anyway.
