UGH! Horrible experience!, 5/17/2016

We were very disappointed with this company. The communication was extremely poor. We were having to call during the move for updates, even though the drivers were supposed to keep us posted on... progress. We spent our time waiting. The pick up times were between 12 - 5:00 pm. The movers showed up at 6:30 pm. The delivery time was supposed to be 6:00 pm the next day. The movers never called to inform of the delay. We called at 2:00 pm on delivery day to find out our truck would not arrive until the next day at 12:00 pm. The movers arrive at 7:30 pm - 71/2 hours LATE. Our movers placed a small number on each item - great for keeping up with belongings. However, they could not keep their system straight and the inventories were completely mixed up upon delivery. We also had scratches on the legs of furniture. (make sure your movers wrap the entire piece of wooden furniture). Not worth the money or the stress.....Look for another company!

Buyer Beware, 4/04/2016

I should say...buyer be sure to EDUCATE YOURSELF before engaging with Colonial Van Lines Relocation Division (CVLRD). CVLRD is a 'moving broker' - I can't stress this enough, all CVLRD does is... create an inaccurate cost/weight guesstimate over the phone, take a deposit from you, and put you in touch with the company that will actually move your belongings. In my case I paid nearly $2,000 directly to CVLRD. On the day your belongings arrive you will pay cash or certified check directly to the driver for the 'remaining balance' (NOTE - you will not have a clear idea of the 'remaining balance' until AFTER your belongings are loaded on the truck and weighed, at that point you are a HOSTAGE). My ADVICE, spend some time reading reviews and researching and find a reputable moving company that serves your area. Talk to your friends and family that have moved - but DO NOT pay a deposit to CVLRD because you might as well throw that money out the window.

If you value your property DO NOT use this company

Colonial Van Lines are totally Unprofessional and Untrustworthy. With something as important as your household belongings and memories you just cannot afford the experience this company will give you. I would strongly advise any potential interstate moves to stay well away. Arrived 5 hours late Took 8 hours to load Found it necessary to re-pack 80 boxes that were already packed by Two Men and a Truck Resulted in an upcharge of $1800 Left items at storage facility Left boxes at storage facility incurring a tidy fee from storage comapny. Delivery in Dallas Their business practice dictates that you have to sign for your property before they even open the truck - this leads to complications when trying to prove if something actually made it onto the truck. They "lost" : computer and screen 5 wardrobe boxes of clothes They damaged: Vintage Dining table leg snapped off. 20 boxes of "re-packed" books Other furniture gouged and cosmetically damaged by clumsy and unprofessional driver who did not even apologize and just said to contact insurance. In short I would just warn anyone who cares about their belongings to stay away from this company.

Unethical Company!

BEWARE!! Total NIGHTMARE! Colonial Van Lines contracts out to third party carriers and as a customer you have no control of the quality of that company or drivers.

Overall a very positive experience

Overall my experience with Colonial Van Lines was very positive. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because there was an issue with delivery time. However, the mix-up may be due to the fact that we contracted the job only a couple of days before delivery and pick-up. I would definitely deal with Colonial again. Job #55355239-CO

Job # 55342678-CO

I was up against the wall trying to move across country within a few days. I submitted for an estimate late on a tuesday night and wasn't expecting to hear from anyone until at least the next day. I got a phone call late that night and was able to set the wheels in motion to get the move started that Friday. They worked around the clock to make the move possible on such short notice. I was shipping a car and moving a one bedroom apartment so this was no easy task. Communication throughout the process was great and I was always up to date with what was going on. The movers gave me plenty of heads up to be ready when they were arriving. The move was fast and easy and would definitely recommend them to a friend.

I have moved three times in the last three years, all locally. This time I moved to across the United States and Colonial Van Lines made this move a breeze! Believe it or not this was my easiest move of them all! I checked out several companies and CVL got back to me immediately and gave an estimate of cost based on what I was moving and they contacted me several times before my move in case things changed which of course they did becuase I dedcied to keep things I thought I would save and vise versa. The movers were prompt and actually asked about what my priorities were and explained all of their costs and expenses. They even made third party arrangements to have my car transported as well. I had one contact person with the company who made all the arrangements and double checked about my vehicle which is funny because my car getting there was not as important to me at the time than it was to them. I feel that they looked out for my best interest and helped with every step along the way-even steps I had not thought of (the 'veteran' that I am with moving). I will recommend them to everyone without reservation and I am not easily pleased being in the people-serving-people business myself. Thank you guys so much!

Excellent Service

Job # 55312000-CO - We recently needed to move a couple of rooms of furniture from Connecticut to California, with both the pick-up and delivery locations to self-storage units. We found Colonial Van Lines Relocation Division online, and have been very happy and very impressed with their excellent service. From the first email contact, throughout the actual move, and up to final delivery, everything was completely explained, the pick and delivery times were exactly as described, there were NO hidden surprises or costs, and the follow-up has been through. We are more than happy to wholeheartedly recommend Colonial Van Lines! Amy and Hunter Palmer Trumbull, CT

job# 55327042-CO

job# 55327042-CO I planned a last minute move from the East Coast to the West Coast. I frantically emailed every moving company I could find on the internet. Only several contacted me back. Colonial was one of the first to do so. They were polite and very informative. Within 24 hours of initial contact, I had booked a moving van to come to my departing location in the time frame that I needed and to deliver when I needed it to be delivered, guaranteed. All for less than the cost if I were to rent and drive a moving truck myself. The staff called to confirm when they were coming. The company loaded the van for me. I sat back and enjoyed a cup of coffee. After the move, the staff contacted me to make sure my family arrived in California safely. They called me a few days later to tell me my delivery was going to be there the next day. They arrived right when they said they would be there. They unloaded the van for us. Just a wonderful experience all around.

A-OK

I had to schedule relocation from Louisina to Arizona in very short timeframe. The only interstate relocation company that committed to do so in such a short notice was Colonial Van Lines. The pricing was good, however be aware that they give you just an estimate on the basis of what you tell them about your household belongings. My estimate was almost one third off when the actual movers arrived. So, be prepared for such underestimate. My items arrived 4 day later of the last day of the delivery window. It was unpleasant but not critical in my case. I received a compensation for the late delivery. Several items were damaged and a few were lost. Not without many phone conversation and attempts to locate my lost belonging, finally Colonial offered me satisfactory monetary compensation for the lost items. Bottom line - we had several bumps on the road (but hey, who said that moving is stress free?). I heard that Colonial has a new management team, at least the last representative I spoke with -Ilyssa - was very efficient in solving my complains.

Reasonable Rates - Delivered on Time

I moved from Nashville, TN to Cuyahoga Falls, OH using Colonial Van Lines as the broker (Job#: 55292771-CO). I felt the charges were fair, but as is so often the case with these kind of moves mine did not go 100% smoothly. First the movers informed me their truck broke down and they couldn't come to until the day after the originally scheduled pickup. This could've been bad news but my apartment at the time was accommodating. The movers did however arrive the next day when they said they would. They were courteous and prepared and the pickup went smoothly. Delivery was also OK, although they did arrive later in the day than they first told me. They also had the wrong amount due for payment, but fortunately for me they called it in and straightened it out without fuss. All in all, this was an OK experience considering some of the stories about interstate moves I've heard in the past.
