I am writing in support of those who have had the misfortune of "landscape design" from Jack Mize and Carla Field. I see the reviews here, as of today, are from 2007 to 2012. That gives me hope that these two are prevented from doing business, but they always seem to resurface, so be careful not to get roped in with the fancy talk and pretty pictures! They may be using a P.O. box, not a street address, which may be the first red flag. Jack emulates the diction of a well-educated Southerner, but don't be fooled. They did the same thing to my property as is written here: tore it up; brought in dirt, left dirt, moved dirt, removed dirt. All that pumped up the bill plenty. You could almost canoe down the street with the mess they made - red clay water running everywhere with the first rain. False claims, false liens. Whoever wrote those praiseworthy comments must have been another scam artist, or was paid off. Having had such experiences with these two fore-flushers, I do not believe a word of it. You should probably have a picture of them so you know who you are dealing with, in case they come to you with a name change. With their reputation, who could blame them?

Before you hire these individuals or company, please read all the negative comments closely and perform due diligence on this company and the 2 owners. I too have been subject to EVERY issue listed within each of the negative reviews plus more. These are not scrupulous nor ethical business people. Their contracts are extremely broad and offer no consumer protection, their knowledge and execution of landscaping design is minimal and substandard, their damage to your property will be extensive. If you disagree with Jack or refute an item within the contract, you are berated. You as a customer are to be in control of your budget, design and time frame. But if Jack wants/needs more money he will add items to pad the contract whether approved or not. Questioning any unauthorized revisions apparently is not acceptable. Work is handled on their schedule, not yours. Both individuals and company have numerous recent and past financial difficulties all over GA that can be verified in state and federal public records. You will have no monetary recourse with legal actions, even when you win. Even though the company address states Forest Park, they operate out of Chamblee. They also operate in the same manner with another business by the name of Poolscapes. I had to hire numerous contractors to fix their paths of destruction of my home and property. Again, buyers beware.

Jack Mize and Carla Field are NOT landscape architects and are under investigation by the Secretary of State's office. Check with Consumers' Affairs and the BBB. They will destroy your landscape and charge you for it.Consider yourself warned.

Our pool company recommended Jack Mize of Colorscapes to design a waterfall cascading into our spa and swimming pool. THANKFULLY we selected them to design and then create our lovely waterfall since it is now the total focus of our wonderful back yard. We enjoy our pool year-round, especially at night because of the moon lighting they designed around our tree lined property. We give Colorscapes an "A" rating, including an on-going relationship with them as far as twice yearly maintenance.

Thanks to Jack & Carla my yard looks terrific. It looks better than it did before! Thanks for the garden arrangements, the waterfall in the yard and the pool work performed. I will keep in touch with them. I will recommend Them to some of my friends! Thanks Jack & Carla!

I'm astonished by the two negative reviews I read here, my experience w/ Colorscapes is completely different. Jack and Carla, the designers of this landscape company, have an impressive portfolio of verifiable work which is only surpassed by the pleasure of working with them. Our property at Lake Lanier backs a small valley of forest area. We host many events throughout the year and so wanted a natural flow for our back property into the trees and hillside below. It was amazing how Colorscapes made that happen. A rock fall and stream bed extend from the side of the house all the way down to curve behind our Jacuzzi and pool ending in a small, tree and flower covered slope, which they moved in to blend the property line. They realized my dream for our view. The flowering plants and trees they used throughout the entire backyard are a vision in daylight while at dusk the lighting system transitions the eye from colorful flora into soothing colors lengthening into the dark of the woods beyond. It's perfection to view while sitting on the deck at night with my family or entertaining guests. Colorscapes kept to our agreed budget and expanded the job easily when we wanted more, which probably explains their need to go over the initial plan for timing. Our ongoing relationship for upkeep is positive and the trouble we had with one tree was swiftly resolved. I highly recommend this company for landscape jobs both great and small.

I can recommend Jack and Carla of Colorscapes of Atlanta having personally known them over many years. I have seen how these people can transform an area from something ordinary into a garden paradise. The artist behind their work is Jack Mize. He combines his technical genius with his love of nature to create a panorama of possibilities for any landscape. Carla Field is a strong force within this team. She brings to the partnership a vast knowledge of the plant material and a keen sense for color design. Together they make a great team. They keep costs to a minimum while supplying the quality of product necessary for an enduring project. They are easy to work with and competent to handle any complications on the project as they arise. The challenge would be to find anyone more capable of designing and achieving a more satisfying retreat for your living space.

Check with GA. Dept of Consumer Affairs. They are under investigation. Colorscapes, Jack Mize and Carla Field do not have a liscence in GA., are not landscape architects. they rip apart your yard and do damage underground and above. We contacted 3 landscapers,1 used by W. Reeve, none could see any viable plan. We had tons of useless dirt and rock removed, drainage, irrigation and hardscapes repaired. 'Swelling and swaying' causes damage to foundation and trees, etc. A MALTA recommended lawyer read the contract..too late! A financial and landscape nightmare. BEWARE!

I signed a design contact with Colorscapes and found out afterwards that they are not licensed landscape architects in the state of Georgia. I still do not have a copy of my plan that I prepaid. Jack Mize was also verbally abusive, which you will find posted by others on other websites as well. Check with the Secretary of State's office before you hire a landscape architect. ask for a copy of a current business license. also check their BBB rating

This company is stellar! My back yard was impossible and a wreck. Jack is a landscaping genius and my yard is a paradise. I was completely impressed with the professionalism and the work done. The design fee is deducted from any job installation. I also received further discount for a showcase package as I found them at Atlanta Home Show. Seems the other review is from a person who did not have the money for a professional installation and chose to keep the design. I highly recommend Colorscapes! They are truly wonderful.

Having been stiffed by Carla and Jack almost 4 years ago, I am still waiting for my court-ordered judgement (I'm a single parent and they were ordered to repay me about $750 - is that too much to ask?)after they ripped me off, lied in front of the judge, and they still seem to be working and making money.
