Trustworthy, skilled, fair. These are the characteristics I associate with Courtesy Auto. I highly recommend them based on a dozen years of experience taking multiple cars to them. The owner, Chris, is at the front desk, and this is a refreshing change from the places that hire slick-talking people to staff the front desk. The mechanics are top-notch, unlike the average mechanics at most other auto-repair places I've gone to in this area and elsewhere. Some reviews have criticized the social skills of the people in the front office, but I'd rather talk to skilled mechanics rather than slick salesmen. Some reviews have criticized their workmanship or choices, but aside from two serious mistakes made by a mechanic who was fired many years ago, I have found their work, and their recommendations, to be better than every other affordable place in this part of town. After the two serious mistakes and one small issue, I tried another nearby repair shop, but that shop quickly hit my three-mistakes limit on about my third visit. For awhile there was a closer place for oil changes, but it closed. I'm back to taking my car to Courtesy Auto for oil changes as well as repairs. My only hesitation in giving them a very high recommendation is that they may become too busy and not have time to fix my car, but I'm willing to take that risk because I believe great small businesses like this are worth keeping in business.

These guys did a great job for me. My battery had been losing its charge and I was having a problem with overheating when I would let the engine run to recharge it. I also mentioned that my a/c had not been working very well this summer and though I might need a recharge. After checking everything out they told me that the battery was bad as was the fan that cooled the radiator. There was no problem with my charging system and the weak a/c was part of the cooling problem. They mentioned that my radiator was showing some corrosion and might need to be replaced soon, and let me know that most of the labor involved with replacing it was currently being done for the fan, and that I would save about $100 in labor costs by doing it now. I really appreciate the fact that Courtesy told me only what I needed and gave me the option to save some money on future repairs. I was relieved that my charging system and a/c didn't need any attention, and after checking prices for parts, I feel that I was charged reasonably for the battery, fan assembly, and radiator.

DO NOT take your car here. I swear to all that is holy, I could take a brand new showroom car from a dealer's personal parking space to these guys and they would find $330-$700 in necessary (albeit invisible) repairs to do. Don't even take your car in for an oil change. You will receive a call that they discovered a--oops, did I say discovered? Oh, no, that diagnostic fee will run you $150 before they can even TELL you what you need fixed. These guys have raised milking the public to an ART FORM. So unless you have money to burn, don't don't don't be fooled by the name "Courtesy" or "AAA". They aren't worthy of either.

The issue with the vehicle owned by "lizmom" is it has multiple problems & excessive rust (North-east coast vehicle).
She initially came in with a secondary air injection issue causing the check engine lamp to come on and had us fix it as necessary. On initial inspection we found a bad battery (26% capacity with 65% being marginal). The customer declined to have it replaced.
Several months later the lamp was back on, she came in with an EVAP failure code written on a piece of paper. She wanted us to replace the part that caused the lamp on, we explained there are many parts that can cause this failure, we would need to test the system and explained the costs, she didn't want to hear that, gave us a snotty comment and left. Approximately a month later she returned and requested we replace the oxygen sensor. We advised her that the trouble code was not O2 sensor related and the light would stay on; she chose to have us replace it anyway.
The next day the vehicle was here when we opened with instructions to test. She still had not replaced the battery so we used one of our batteries at no charge to her. We then tested the EVAP system and the smoke test revealed a gross vacuum leak at the vent valve, we capped it off and no other leaks were found. The customer chose to replace the valve and have the light reset.
Three weeks later the light is back on and the husband comes in, we inform him we will not retest until the battery is replaced as it needs a stable electrical system or the tests can-not be trusted and he left. We opened a few days later and here is the vehicle to be tested. We retest the system at NO CHARGE to her. We find the fuel cap is loose and the o-ring is cracked, total outlay for her $23, 2 hours diagnostic time for her; NO CHARGE. We inform her it has an electrical system failure in the EVAP system and the fuel tank will need to be removed to test the sensor as it appears to be stuck, additional testing will be done at NO CHARGE but it will cost her to remove the tank and she declined to fix her vehicle.
We have bent over backwards trying to make this woman happy, performed many hours of labor at no charge and offered more; this is her response. We have kept her informed every step of the way as she requested. Her anger is displaced, she should be mad at her rusted vehicle.
This customer leaves out where he expected to be put ahead of customers that were here before him and repair his car with "USED" parts. I don't think this makes us slow, and considering we have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty we can't install used parts since we have to be able to stand behind the repair. To "R & D"; Considering I talk to close to 95% of the customers it's most likely she talked with me. I'm not rude to anyone. Sometime people don't like what I have to say regarding the costs to repair their cars when break down. I refuse to attempt to trick a customer into my place of business by giving out a lowball price, then hit them with a "Oh, by the way" upsell tactic that is rampant in our industry. I adhere to a strict code of ethics which I believe in. If this costs me business, so be it.

Courtesy has been my go to shop for years and I've recommeded family and friends there. They've given me rides home, gotten me rental cars, taken me into the shop and shown me any problems I've questioned. I docked them a star in each the serive and value with an understanding though. Service; can be a little difficut to get in since they are a busy shop, and Value; because service just seems to keep getting more expensive in general (I maybe I shouldn't blame them for this and they should have 5 stars). I would highly recommend them because they always seeem to care.

we talked to this place last week and told them we were having car trouble, told them we might be back in a few days if it persisted. well...we went back and i spoke with the guy in the office. he was so rude and condescending to me that i walked out. he had a used-car salesman approach that turned me off right away but i stuck around for another minute to see what he had to say. i will never go here for anything, even though this is the closest place to my house.

My car broke down and they told me it would take 5 days to fix (part needed to be shipped from CA) and cost me $1000. I wasn't happy with this price or slow timeline and took it elsewhere. This other shop fixed my car in a day for $400. That's my review of Courtesy. SLOW AND EXPENSIVE.

This man came in, wanted the car fixed right then and there were other customers ahead of him. He also insisted we install used parts to save him money. Used parts do not carry the guarantee we advertise and they are not readily available. We were sorry we could not please him.
