I found Dr. Dawson's staff to be wonderful, across the board. However, Dr. Dawson herself has a poor bedside manner. I'm glad to see in the reviews that it was not just me that found her to be cold,... patronizing and clipped. Rather than engender a feeling of trust and openness, she made me want to leave immediately and run for cover. Not the feeling you want from your ob/gyn.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »
I have been seeing Dr Dawson for nearly 2 years and shes wonderful. Everyone in the reception area is friendly and I hardly wait 10 minutes in the reception area. Her PA's are wonderful, and so is... the women who does the Ultra-Sounds. She has taught me to have a healthier diet, and her advice has been essential in properly treating my Uterine fibroid. She asks you questions and listen intently, and I believe people are mis-taking this for "coldness". Shes smiles plenty at my appointment. Finally, she is also a holistic physician so I am having a really hard time believing she has tried to force anyone to take any sort of medication. Don't believe the negative reviews, shes wonderful.VIEW MORE »VIEW LESS »

Dr Dawson had been my Gynecologist for the last 20+ years but I decided to go elsewhere after my last visit. I'm not sure what has happened, but Dr. Dawson is not the same doctor I saw many times before. She was rude and basically said I was not taking care of myself because I was overweight. Yes, I'm overweight, but not obese. When I questioned her statement, she had the nerve to grab my stomach and shake it. I was shocked! My blood pressure was excellent and all of my other test were within norm. I know that as a doctor, she should care about my total health. She should not be rude, but professional and supportive. She was very argumentative the entire visit. I surely will not pay for that kind of treatment. That visit did it for me and I will not go back for my next visit.
After reading all the negative reviews about Dr. Dawson, I was very hesitatant to consult with her. I am glad I didn't listen as she was caring, knowledgeable and understood my problem. I've been suffering from chronic pain for years & have consulted many doctors before who dismissed me without a care, misdiagnosed me, ignored me or put me thru painful & unnecessary treatments that only benefited their pockets. Dr. Dawson was compassionate, understood my concerns & offered alternative solutions. I urge anyone who is in the same situation not to pay attention to the negative feedback & see for themselves what she has to offer. There's not much to lose (about $40 for the consultation & parking) and much to gain.
I started using Dr. Dawson when I first moved to Atlanta when she was on Linden avenue. I thought she was phenomenal. I absoulutely loved her nurse practitioner Lana. Her beside manner got worse and worse and after Lana left I left the practice. I took particular offense that when I went to see her about a particular health issue she just looked at me dismissively. When I pressed her about options she said I could refer you to a reporductive endocrinologist but that costs money. I didn't appreciate that judgment. My husband and I both are professionals with decent jobs and she never had to worry about me paying her so what made her think I couldn't afford a reproductive specialists. Also her staff made 2 appointments for me on days when the office was closed. I drove all the way from Alpharetta to find that there was no one there. I will give her credit that when I wrote a letter to complain about that she did take the time to call me herself to say she was making changes in her office staff.
I switched from another practitioner to Dr. Dawson during my 3rd month based on a referral. My experience was stressful from day one. Her staff is less than pleasant--with the exception of her P.A. Ms. Jackson who actually keeps the office afloat because you can only see Dr. Dawson every three visits. In addition, Dr. Dawson lacks a warm bedside manner and patients are just a number on her roster. During the last month of my pregnancy, I asked for another ultrasound since the last one was done at 24 weeks and she told me "no". To top it off, after having contractions for three days and a last visit to her office on my due date, it took a visit to a specialist the next day for me to find out that my baby was breech and had been in the same position for the last three months. Needless to say, I had an avoidable c-section four hours later. Why didnít my doctor know? In my opinion, it's a basic obstetrics diagnosis that should be determined during a routine visit.
I was switching OBGYN in the middle of my pregnancy and Dr. Felicia Dawson was recommended to me. Yet, when I called to see if I could have a phone consultation with her I was refused- she was too busy. not only that I had to see her assistant first, and then schedule an appointment with her. Meaning this could possibly waste everyone's time. & it did. my visit was horrible. My appointment was at 9:30am and I did not leave until 12noon. They made me pay 1/2 the payment prior to being seen. & when I finally saw the phsician's assistant she was more interested in birth control, rather than my beautiful pregnancy, and tried to force the idea of using an "IUD". She even had the gull to say:"well think about your husband and how he will feel having to use a condom after he has been able not to use one during your pregnancy!" WOW. This is about my body, not my husbands, and I am carrying the baby not him. That was outrageous. needless to say, I am not returning. never even had a chance to meet Dr.Dawson- due to her unprofessional protocol at her office- and have found a new doctor to deliver my baby via VBAC.
I went to work after my visit and I emailed a few of my girlfriends to tell them about the visit---how courteous, friendly, professional and informative the staff was. I was placed at ease for the first time. And Dr. Dawson is fantastic! Superb! Awesome! I am so very glad to have her as my doctor now and I feel I will be healthier and happier!
I went to Dr. Dawson's Women for Women office several years ago because she was listed as being holistic and supportive of alternative approaches. I was going in for my annual exam, but had a few concerns - one being a typically long menstrual cycle and the other being interested in exploring alternate means of birth control other than condoms & the pill. Dr. Dawson was extremely rude and curt. After barely spending a few minutes with me, she scolded me when I said that my long-term boyfriend (now husband) & I occassionally used the withdrawal method while I was in the infertile portion of my cycle. She treated me as if I was an ignorant, uneducated street hooker when I am a very intelligent, well-educated professional and adult well aware of the risks of unprotected sex. She immediately told me that she would write me a prescription for the pill (so much for holistic & alternative, huh??). When I explained that I did not feel comfortable taking the pill and wanted a non-pharmaceutical/hormonal alternative, she offered to write me a prescription for a low-dose progesterone only pill!?? Huh??! She also very rudely announced that my long menstrual cycles probably meant that I wasn't ovulating every cycle and that when I do want to have children, that I will likely have difficulty getting pregnant. She barked all of this, without ever recommending any bloodwork or hormone testing. I felt as if I'd been punched in the stomach! Not what I'm looking for in a OB/Gyn!
I was a patient of Dr. Dawson's for years but my experiences with her office got progressively worse. I think I stayed so long because of her nurse Practitioner and when she left I did too. Her staff made appointments for me twice on days the office was closed which was an ticked me off because I drove from Alpharetta. I will give her credit for addressing my issues with her staff after I wrote her a letter. However, her bedside manner continued to be cold and she treated me as if I were indigent and could not afford care by not recommending certain availble treatment options "due to cost" she said. That was the absolute last straw for me.
Dr. Dawson was as dry as plain burnt toast. I was attracted to her office by her commercials on tv, and her charge that she cared for women "mind, body, and spirit." Totally a gimmick, I tell you. She was sarcastic, patronizing, and acted as if I was the stupidest person that I had ever met, although she did get better after I complained to her staff. I loved her Physician's Assitant, nurses, and office staff, but she has an extremely poor bedside manner. For example, when I asked her about my weight, and concerns about being overweight and pregnant, she blandly said, "eat right and exercise..." and then said, "I mean, I can give you an article..." so I told her about my extreme extreme fatigue, and general lack of energy, and she looked me dead in the face, and with a smirk, and said, "well take a nap and then go for a walk..." She never introduced herself to my husband at all of our visits. I would specifically ask for her PA when I went in...finally, three months before I was due, I changed doctors. Don't be fooled!
I went to see Dr. Dawson because she claims that she is a holistic practitioner. I had numerous concerns which Dr. Dawson did not address. She would not give me a straight answer to any of my questions or offer her opinion on any treatments. Every concern was met with a "whatever you want to do". She is a very hard and curt person and addressed me in an accusing manner as if my problems were my fault and not the fault of the medicine I was taking. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and returned for a second appointment. She was so rude that I will never return. I also find her staff to be quite rude over the phone and she demands payment before you have even been seen for an appointment even if you have insurance. I had to wait two months for a refund check.
I chose Dr. Dawson as my ob/gyn because I wanted someone who would give me in depth treatment and not just go with the routine of giving me a quick glance, writing a prescription and sending me on my way. She is fast, friendly, and THOROUGH. She will also tell you about things you can do to improve any condition you may have without the use of medications. She treats the whole person, not just the ailment. She listens to what the patient has to say instead of just giving orders. I highly recommend her services.
