I have seen Dr Debakey for years as he is a great doctor. His nurses are wonderful, but his front office staff and office manager leave a lot to be desired. After my primary doctor referred me to see him because they had found a mass, the appointment staff told me I could not be seen for 2-months. When I questioned her ability to make that decision without consulting the doctor or nurse she became downright ugly on the phone and told me it would not be possible to speak with one of the medical staff, nor could she leave a number for them to call me back, even though my primary physician stressed the importance of being seen ASAP. I then asked for the Office Manager. I quickly realized why the front office staff have the attitude they do, as the manager told me she did not believe her staff would speak to me that way and refuse to let me speak with medical staff, and that if she had it was because they were short-staffed due to spring break. although the manager connected me to a reassuring nurse, who made an appointment for the same week. The doctor ordererd more tests. The office was to fax the order to the hospital. When I got home my answering machine had a message with a fax trying to come through and when I called the hospital they did not have the order. I called the doctor's office and explained what happened only to be told by the same secretary she should not have to refax the order as the hospital loses them. I have now found a doctor with competent office staff.
