Dr. Ellington
Please don’t take your pets here. My family has used Dearborn for over thirty years. I have always been extremely satisfied with the quality of care that was given to my dogs. However, the veterinarians that made Dearborn a successful animal hospital are no longer there.

After thirty years I will be changing vets.

won't return
I initially took my dog in for an ear infection, she gets roughly two a year and it's generally pretty easy to clear up. It took Dearborn, three different visits, three different doctors, three different dianoses and they still never got rid of the ear infection! They charged for all of these visits and every change of medicine and never once apologized for not being able to figure it out. I stupidly gave them another chance and took my dog there to get fixed. After coming home, she stopped eating and when we took her back in to be checked, the doctor lectured us on her weight because she'd somehow gained a pound after not eating for two days! When we reminded the doctor why we were there they dropped the weight thing and ran every blood test possible. They called the next day to say she had a UTI. They gave me antibiotics which after one day made her throw up. I took her back again and told them all of my frustrations and the response was, "well, you can find another doctor" To add insult to injury, the doctor that ended up seeing her for the nausea said all her tests came back negative and she shouldn't have been on the antibiotics and that she was sick because of a reaction to the medicine. They refunded the price of the medicine but then charged for the fluids and anti-nausea medicine they gave her to fix their mistake! When i questioned this, they told me they still had to cover their costs! Needless to say, we're done, I gave them more chances than they deserve.

Sad and Disappointed in Dearborn
I'm grieving and mourning the loss of my wonderful dog, Ivan. So, I hope I'm not too harsh. Though, I believe in my heart that he would be here today if he got the care and attention he needed. I rushed my sick dog to Dearborn, who we've used for years. I thought he would have been moved up in the queue due to the nature of his illness, but I waited a very long time. The vet who saw us examined him didn't find that my concerns were anything to worry about. They took his blood, and it came back within an hour. He was anemic and deficient in calcium, and his red blood cell count was low. It was an indicator that he was losing blood. She ordered more tests and sent us on our way. Our dog died 30 minutes after we got home. We suspect he had blood clots which caused cardiac arrest. While I don't want to blame anyone for his death. I really believe Ivan's fate would have been different had we gone to a more professional, organized vet. We were promised a phone call the following day to get the second part of the test results. They failed to call us. Also, they misplaced records from my other dog. I'm at the angry stage of my grief, and I'm grateful he didn't suffer for long. But I am utterly disappointed in Dearborn, and their lack of attention to detail. We ended up working with the Village Vets on North McDonogh street. They treated us with so much respect and compassion.

Wonderful Docs and Staff
We have two dogs which have special needs, so we are there quite a bit. The doctors have been nothing but wonderful with our two boys. They always make sure you have a firm understanding of what is wrong with your pet. They have even printed out information for us as reference. We have seen Dr. Tobias, Dr. Cely and Dr. Ellington - not a complaint to be made! After a few visits, the staff now know who I am and inquire about both dogs. They can get pretty busy and you may have to wait, but this office is definitely worth the wait.

Overall a positive experience
I have read some of the older reviews. To update, unfortunately Dr Jackson has passed, so there have been changes. The staff is the same, but of course pricing has increased. Still far more reaonable than other vets.

The vets are compassionate. Dr T. is a doll. Dr. Ellington, the owner is very dedicated, and thorough, but there is something about her personality I don't care for.

Even if you have an appt, if they are short of staff or if there is an emergency, you can wait quite awhile. Once you get in you are not rushed and actually speak with the vet.

Very difficult to get on the phone w/out being put on hold. Reception staff can be a little rough.

Small waiting room, can be rough on cats.

Overall a positive place, but very busy.
